There's a Crowdfunding appeal to buy for £1million a new BRC&W museum in Birmingham.
Scam, P++s take or Real? Has garnered £800 of peoples' money.
    Thoughts please. Here's the link

Didn't someone from this group post on Nat Pres a few months ago? Would seem far more sensible to me to focus initially on a small exhibition, maybe in conjunction with a Midlands railway, and see where they go from there. No organisation fresh out of the box with no track record and no physical assets is going to raise £1 million towards a property purchase.

That was from a group for the Gloucester Carriage and Wagon Works. https://www.national-preservation.com/threads/gloucester-railway-carriage-and-wagon-museum.848076/

Looks like a candidate for "Fantasy Island" judging by this Twitter page I found when having a search on the net.........

    https://twitter.com/brcwco

They appear to have mugs and paintings for sale to raise funds.
The entry for September 2016 concerning the launch of their project to build a replica of Kestrel (after 2 years of hard work, no less) would appear to sum them up...........

They also have a Farcebook page as well!

EDIT : A look at the FB page also indicates they want to build a replica Blue Pullman as well as Kestrel and he/they have even held some discussions with Stadler Rail (CH) about building it !!

Reading their Facebook site shows that the site (4.23 acres) is actually for sale for £3.6M and the £1M is just the deposit with the remaining £2.6M to be paid over 2 years! The site is the former EMR scrapyard next door to Tyseley.
Bearing in mind that the £3.6M is only to buy the site never mind clear it, possibly decontaminate it and then erect a building of some sort, I think this is definitely pie in the sky!
Various comments on Facebook have also questioned the lack of a business plan, the reply being that it's being revised and then will probably need to be revised again before it's made available to potential donors (no, I didn't understand that either...!)

They've been given TWO WEEKS to raise the funds. How on earth have they raised £800?

I groaned when I read the words on the link (museum not for profit). If you are going to reform the company why not reform it to make stuff and provide real employment. This is what Britain is becoming, everywhere you go there is some little museum of "This is where they 'used' to make ............. but they don't make it any more" and young people certainly feel the lack of real proper jobs.

Another entrant for the best WIBN 2017 awards? :Caffeinefix:
Reading the previous post by Toplight reminded me of words by the late Chairman Mao. He likened the West to 'a paper tiger'. Actually he was speaking in a military context, but often his words seem to ring for me in a financial and industrial way.

The curious thing is the proponent has some influence or bravado to get a price , and apparent contact with various movers . Personally this feels like a WIBN that really has no legs . That amount of money needed would be far better spent elsewhere
