I just wondered if the Leylandii lies within the railway boundary? And if so, was it planted by preservationists to provide some shelter for passengers from the strong coastal winds in an exposed location, perhaps prior to the passenger shelter being reinstated? Or is the Leylandii capable of self-seeding in such a position?

An informed gardener presumably could calculate the age from the existing height?

It is an infertile hybrid propagated by cuttings. Felling them would be a good idea.

Chris Hooper commented that the trees were planted by his predecessor as Doniford SM. They are firmly within the Railway boundary.

I suspect they are now starting to feel scared....

Sadly not due to the inevitable pollution being so close to the line. Neither pollinating insects nor apples like soot!

Since I last visited Railcams, I see that the camera at Crowcombe Heathfield has been altered. Although still mounted on the signal box it has been rotated 180 degrees to face Crowcombe Bridge. A far better view in my opinion.
And the Bees seem to have departed!

With a third of the frame taken up by a close up,view of the signal box? Awful IMHO.

I have been on duty at Crowcombe station today. We were aware that the camera has been changed, but do not know who has changed it, since it is done remotely. Since the demise of FoCHS, it is not clear who has the necessary access to change it. Railcams have been contacted to see if they can change it back. The bees are still there, they are behind the camera in its present orientation!

But the Champagne vine growers objected strongly to the railway by them being electrified & depriving them of
of the soot and smokebox char that they carefully fetched to the great benefit of both the vines & their crop.
