I didn't think that the ORR would allow this on reconstructed lines, as distinct from those that have always existed, such as the NYMR. Train length and platform length have to match unless doors are locked. See para 196 of Railway Safety Publication 5 'Guidance on Minor Railways'.

I know it's difficult to resist sometimes, like a dripping tap we thought we'd repaired, but don't rise to the bait or let him wind you up. This thread is supposed to be about proposed new builds, not about platform lengths! The Beachy Head thread also seems to have drifted into the abyss too. There are more posts on the thread today so I thought this was due to a steam test having taken place.;)

Well, the replica of the GER G15 Class 0-4-0 at the NVR hasn't been completed yet.
Maybe it's time to throw in some $$$, and get it done.

Don't need to fight with me at all - you just need to go back and read what I said which was essentially for some lines something larger is required, however there is an awful lot that really don't need anything bigger to actually pull the train loads or for the length of run, they may want to to do so for other reasons like "all they've got" or even "just to give their members a bit of fun" but it's not an essential requirement. (I do wonder sometimes why people can't actually read the postings before jumping to conclusions.)

Thanks for mentioning this new build, I wasn't aware of it.

Having some coaches off the end of a platform happens often on main line railtours. At Vintage Trains' platform at Tyseley there can be more off the end than beside the platform.

It's not a new build but a conversion from one of the batch of Cockerill steam trams which was imported into the UK about twenty years ago.

And which stopped after the two main owners of the conversion died in the late 1990s. Let's get the G15 done, so...[IMG]

And that's just the easy bit of the route, at 1 in 35!

Watching the same loco erupting up the 1 in 19 of Foxfield bank itself with a rake of mineral wagons and the regulator literally on the far stop is the single most impressive sight the preservation movement can offer (to my mind at any rate).

[blatant plug] Foxfield's Autumn gala is on in just over three weeks (September 23rd/24th). If you've never been, come and see for yourself! If all goes to plan, we should have two 1870s locos to play with (aka work right to their limits), as well as an Austerity, a crane tank, and a 14" RSH [/blatant plug]

Huh? That's a new one on me. Not mentioned on newbuildsteam either, no press coverage either... if it exists, get some publicity going, let people know it exists and ask for support...

That really angers me. The hypocrisy is incredible.

What is it with this movement at times? Haven't we got enough problems trying to change the perception of our movement to the general public without attacking people within our movement doing something we might not wholly agree with?

    Where's the bigger picture here?

I am so glad for the doers around the country who come up with what seem like incredible schemes and succeed. Keep it going. I look forward to seeing 32424 in steam in the near future.

In standard gauge - I am pretty certain not a single 2-4-0 tender engine still steams - but we do have a 2-4-oWT (Beattie Well Tank). There are no 2-2-2s or 4-2-2s. No 2-4-2s of any kind either I think.

It's a private project and as has been mentioned above it has been stalled for a few years now. There's a thread on here about it somewhere.
Probably not on newbuildsteam because it's a private project and it's a conversion rather than a new build. As I understand it most of the work to 'convert' it is of a cosmetic nature.

Cornwall is a 2-2-2 but I think we can say safely that it will never steam in its current form. That leaves the Bloomer to fill the gap but I don't see that being completed for a long while.

Fair point - also 4-2-2 has the Stirling Single but again, unlikely to see that steam again.

48518 was not an O6. It was built at Doncaster to a Railway Executive Committee order. The O6s received the LMS Nos 8705-8772 when loaned to the LMS just before nationalisation.
