Virgina Water, where the DCE and the BBP diverge from their consecutive schedule

That explains the lack of activity from the front end and clouds of smoke coming from the rear on the outward run.

Oh dear. That's why us ardent steam boys avoid some of today's mainline steam activity. Looks like the diesel, for reasons stated, provided most of the action today, from the back of the train. Sad. So sad and added to that you can't stand at the window any more, very sad indeed.

60009-3 Dunbridge 06092017.jpg Just up the line at Dunbridge sounding like a sewing machine as she raced through! Will really miss the glorious sound of the chime whistle!

Anyone know why the DCE took a roundabout route from Longhedge Jn to Brentford via Willesden and South Acton while the Belmond took a much shorter route via Putney?

I believe it is just a "lose time" path that allows it to get to the Staines pick up at the regular time of 0927 and hence use the regular DCE timings down to Weymouth. Because the 0844 is a Belmond path in the WTT when Belmond use it the DCE has to leave earlier so their ECS can get into Platform 2. Going direct would mean it in a siding somewhere and the only one that springs to mind is just outside Staines, but not sure if it long enough or not.

A short video from Palestine Bridge (Grateley) yesterday evening. A very impressive performance from No.9!

    Enjoy!

Thanks for posting - the soundtrack to the No 9 video reminded me of an old Argo Peter Hansford record of A4's at night record I once owned. Think I swapped it at some point about 40 years ago!! Andy

A bit late, but I've just uploaded a video clip of 60009 at Farnborough back in July to YouTube. Not exactly hot news, but if anyone would like to see it, here's the link:

    Hope it's still of interest.
