That's probably where we differ, I've never and will not point a camera at 45699 or 35018 in their current configuration which probably makes Mr Smith chuckle as he hates railway photographers, although he is quite happy to use the results of their efforts on his website and in his publicity material. In the 21st century it is difficult, if not almost impossible to get everything historically correct but an incorrectly liveried loco means it's not worth trying. Thankfully next week we have the spectacle of 35028 with a set of Pullmans round Kent on the Golden Arrow and that's a s good as it gets.

No need to Martin, there's no such thing as authentic BR blue or Maroon for 46115. 6115 in 1946 LMS black would look good though

A historically accurate livery can surely be portrayed on any loco whether or not also historically correct.
I would like to see 44932 back in BR green.
Totally agree the LMS black 6115 looked superb though and would again.

No it can't and I believe 44932 was in Apple green which wa sactually applied to one Black 5 when the new BR were trying to decide on livery policy. Perhaps 46115 can should be painted brown, historically accurate for,the NBR.

Such misery about something that only stops the loco going rusty. Can we not simply rejoice that the loco has been asved and is in steam?

No wonder enthusisarsts get such a bad press from time to time, we just whinge about colours!

In preservation era, 40 years ago when 44932 was 30 years old, it carried BR passenger green. The experimental historically correct apple green as caried by M4763 (?) would be nice to see reprised though too.

We're never all going to agree about the importance or otherwise of painting locos in colours (with lining, crest if any, size and style of lettering and number, etc) corresponding precisely to what those particular locos or other members of their classes carried in the past. Nor about whether liveries applied earlier in the preservation era are as valid as those from before preservation. Nor about our own personal aesthetic preferences (e.g. I happen to dislike blue on a King, but don't mind it on a Duchess or on something from the GE or the Caley). So can't we just agree to disagree?

I believe the late Derek Cross had quite a few words to say about 44932 in green until he was told it was correct! I'm rather looking forward to the day it and 45596 double head over the S&C with a rake of maroon stock...!

44932 was only correct to the exent there had been 3 green class 5s briefly just after nationalisation. As I recollect 44932 wore late period BR passenger green, quite different.
Handsome as it looked Derek Cross was right to call it wrong in that sense.

Once again if anybody expresses an opinion on what livery they would like to see they get shot down.. seems you are allowed an opinion but not anybody who says something you dont like.. Of course its the owners choice but as this is a forum( forum noun: forum; plural noun: forums; plural noun: fora...1.a meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged...) then let people who have differing views from from you say what they think without rubbishing them...
When you say "Can we not simply rejoice that the loco has been saved and is in steam?.. you imply that those who comment on livery dont rejoice in it being saved and in steam which is totally wrong.

No it isn't - it is just expressing an alternative opinion. He doesn't think livery should matter. You do. We discuss it.

I thought 44932 could wear green livery (I believe it carried it in its youth) as @26D_M says though the photos I've seen of 44932 in preservation do show it wearing BR green with the later 'ferret and dartboard' rather than the 'cycling lion' I'm sure I've seen a photo of a preserved Black 5 in BR Green with the early BR crest at Carnforth (maybe 44806?)

44806 yes, was a shade lighter green and earlier BR crest at LHR certainly perhaps 10A before that. Named Magpie too, just to take the apoplexy to higher level still.
    M4762-4 were the 3 green 5s.

Bashed her on the main line during her green period in the mid 70s. A very impressive run from Carnforth to Leeds with a load that was definitely best suited to Class 7 motive power. She still managed it though.
Pitch black for most of the run so the colour didn't really matter. :)

Think that trend for 44932 carried on in its latest spell of operation. Had a reputation as a strong 5 and used deputising for class 7s.
