Yes indeed. The rules are not always enforced with good grace. Moving around the train isn't prevented though as has been stated by some. Other TOCs have a softer approach to applying the same rules and without making a big issue of it.

(This should perhaps be on a different thread, but ...) I have recently experienced less than good grace from A N Other tour promoter. To paraphrase: Hot day. Can we leave droplights open for more ventilation? OK. What if I'm so hot that I want to stand in the vestibule to get more fresh air? Then the windows will be closed.

The presumption seems to be that we can't be trusted to behave ourselves, and we will lean out as soon as the stewards' backs are turned.

Meanwhile we continue to see videos with a few heads sticking out, both from support coaches and from other coaches.

From what I can see it looks like RTC/WCR have relaxed on the window issue on tours based in the north and the regular runs.

We're going a bit off topic here but just to follow up on the 'heads out of windows' subject, I've noticed that GWR have recently started cracking down on this activity on their HSTs. Twice in the last month I've had talkings to from the ticket inspector for looking out of the drop window, even though there was no working line on the side I was looking out of and no foliage or gantries etc.

Not a lot that stewards can do about the former and we do not have access to the support coach. A quiet word with those we do find is usually all that is needed. It's now the diesel cranks who can be more of a problem, not had to eject any yet but...

Would agree with Ralph fully, and "down South" most people seem to have got it now and it is normally a non enthusiast that causes the problem. But I did notice a particularly bad trip last week where there were many heads a long way out (again looked like public, phones and Ipads it seemed) but someone also posted a video shot from on the train for a lot of the journey from Hellifield to Carlisle. Did wonder who was stewarding that one.
