So here goes again. This pair show the 4MT 80135 running round, on the old backroad, now platform 4 at Grosmont. The B&W shot is a going away shot of the Gloucester 100 units running into Grosmont. Of the pair of 100 units one pair survive elsewhere. 2010-05-13_0a.jpg 2010-05-09_21.JPG

Was that by design, or just serendipity?

My Snowplough 18 being delivered to Grosmont by the Whitby pick up goods 31. In about 1975
One of the Lambtons venturing onto the mainline to collect it.
Just make out the plough slope facing Whitby.
I think this was the 2nd attempt as the previous day it turned up facing the other way and went back to Thornaby to turn.

Someone passed me this photo, but do not know who.
    Thanks anyway.

It's been a while since there's been any historcal photos from the Moors. So here goes. We see NELPGs P3 [in this North Eastern Livery]. First under the coaling plant at Grosmont MPD, the second she's her in action at the 2003 Autumn Gala with the Moors 1st all pre British Railways train, unfortunately the Thompson CL at the rear is in B.R. colours rather than scumble teak finish, I was standing along side the LNERCAs late secrtary John Curtis, so we took almost identical photos. The last B+W is another showing Lambton No5 departing over Grosmont Crossing. 5a.jpg 018_15.JPG 2010-05-09_32.JPG

As something of a follow up. Here's the same shot of 2392 in the station, after I'd vignetted and sepia toned it. The effect masks the modern car to the right of the P3s smokebox.

If you are masking New items then maybe both platforms need to be edited out.
The platform at which the loco is on is not even complete.:):)

Perhaps. The end nearer to the level crossing though was in use at the time;).

Here we go again, folks. Starting from the top, we see from the left 4mt tank 80135 in steam, NRM Class 31 D5500 and sadly out of steam Lambton No5. I'm not sure what the loco seen through the tunnel is though Black 5 5428? The T2 2238 beside the MPD water column and finally the K1 2005 taking water from the same column. The water tank supplying the column is hidden in the trees on top of the hill seen in the first photo.

When was the first picture taken? I don't remember the houses at all and, though I can understand why they might have been usefully replaced, I can't help but mourn the loss of character just there.

The Railway cottages were there until the mid eighties give or take. They were demolished when the MPD was enlarged in the late eighties early nineties. There was also a signal box behind where I was standing on the ramp used to coal the locos [using a JCB]. The signal box was used for the junction where the old original Stephenson and deviation lines parted, hence the name of NELPGs storage shed.... Deviation shed.

    Scanned quite a few more!

Some on the MPD and history of the MPD Cottages and their demolition - a series showing them before they started to go, going and gone, and then some of the Coaling Stage over the years, including one (poor) current one.

Some at Pickering and the platform extension built in the early 1990s - and a bit of black and white photography!

BTW, 76079 facing north might seem unusual today, but its presence at Pickering wouldn't be - but this was the loco's very first visit to what would become its future home!

Some loco ones to finish, featuring 3672 Dame Vera Lynn amongst others.

I must mention that some of the photos I have uploaded may be from the collection of the late Sandy Campbell, but I am afraid I am not exactly sure which ones!

Must admit using Black & White film or using the digital setting on a modern Digital camera, can really add to the "atmosphere" of a shot. In the same way as sepia toning can too.

It's been quite some time since there's been any additional photos of the Moors. So here goes a pair from the Gresley Centenary [of his appointment as Carriage & Wagon Superintendent] Gala back in 2005. I've been a little clever with the first photo so as it appears the train is departing through Pickering town centre and traveling south to Rillington Jct and York..... The second shows the Howlden Saloon attached to another set of Teaks. Purely by accident the young lad crouching down beside me looks like an Arab due to the other photographer beside me holding his camera up and the lad looks like he's wearing a turban.....
