Use of rail lubrication?

Discuție în 'Heritage Railways & Centres in the UK' creată de Railboy, 15 Sep 2017.

The current length of the LWR looks to be less than 2 miles so shorter the WSR's Minehead-Ker Moor (2 and a half miles). Both are well beaten by the NVR's straight from east of Wansford to Overton Station which is well over 3 miles (although pedants will no doubt spot something that'll possibly disqualify it :) )

It depends, I suppose, on what metric you choose. Longest single straight stretch, longest total amount of straight track, shortest total amount of non-straight track, or highest percentage of straight track.

One flange greaser has been used on the Gwili for a long time and two more recently added.

Difficult to count our bends as most of the track is... I count 6 straights for an approx total of 1700 metres in the current 6700 metre run. The longest straight being the 450 metre run north out of Abergwili. Current longest continuous curving section approx 1500 metres (Forge Mill to Dan y Coed)
If we ever did get to Llanpumsaint (the end of our property) It would add zero (!) to the straight sections and our longest continuous curves would be (roughly) from MP 250/1 to MP 255/1 (just over 8 km)! That would give us approx totals of 1,700 metres of straight track in a 13 km run. :Wacky::)

Oh and just to remind ourselves of the topic, the SVR does use flange lubricators on several curves and the incidence of loco wheel profiling decreased when compared to the use of the loco mounted graphite sticks.

North Norfolk has three lubricators, two of which have been in place for a very long time.
