Or as we used to say as kids, "Jimmy the Monk, Jimmy the Monk". Not sure how we dealt with going over junctions though. Haha!

Does anyone know where you can find out which engine is scheduled to run the tour on which date? I'm trying to pick a week when 45407 is at the helm. I know she tends to run the last week of the season, but unfortunately I can't make it up that week. Thanks.

You could try asking on the West Coast FB page.

Thanks, John. From what I've seen others ask on there, the WC team seem to make it as vague as possible, but it's worth a try.

You could also try asking Ian Riley (you may have to do it on the Works forum though)...

45407 should have been in use this week, along with the next two weeks on either morning or afternoon train. Currently 45407 and 44871 are handling both trains between them for a 3 week period while the K1 has her usual maintenance period at the start of September.

No. 62005 returns for the week beginning Sunday 17th Sept, and from there it is then a weekly switch between the K1 and either Black 5, so that the K1 performs fortnightly. Which Black 5 that will end up be, Ian Riley is the best person to ask.

Cheers, Jonathon, that's helpful. Ian Riley would seem to be the man to ask.

Think it did West Coast's first year? Not ideal with its wheelbase IIRC

15 different steam locos have worked at FW, since steam returned in 1984:

GWR 'Hall' 4-6-0 No. 5972 'Olton Hall' (mainly for Harry Potter filming, although it did work a handful of Jacobites)
    LMS Class 5 4-6-0 Nos. 44767, 44871, 44932, 45212, 45231, 45305, 45407
    LMS Class 8 2-8-0 No. 48151
    LNER Class B1 4-6-0 No. 61264
LNER Class K4 2-6-0 No.61994 'The Great Marquess'
    LNER Class K1 2-6-0 No.62005
    LNER (NBR) Class J36 0-6-0 No.673 'Maude'
    BR Std Class 4 4-6-0 No.75014
    BR Std Class 4 2-6-0 No.76079

The 8F certainly worked the Jacobite in 98 / 99. The wheelbase was an issue , I recall one wheelset rim being painted yellow for checking. Haven't scanned those years yet so don't have the pictures to post.
I can't recall it working the Jacobite since but it did double head a charter with the K4 to Fort William in ( I thought ) May 2008.

I'll ignite fury by suggesting we should encourage the return of Olton Hall in red for a few runs during Autumn 2018 ;)

As ever, thanks James for the insight! I always forget 44932 spent some time in Fort William. It is incredible to think of the variety that has been seen on the West Highland Extension. Oh to steam 'Glen Douglas' now and make it 16......

Can I stoke the fury by hoping for a return at the same time of 44932, in BR passenger green? :-o

Just got back from an enjoyable few days in the West Highlands. We already knew that the Jacobite was fully booked, but we enjoyed a ride on the diesel to Mallaig anyway, and watched 62005's departures.

It's great that the Jacobite is such a success, and it was also good to see the four coach DMU running full too. The Class 156 is one of the best of its generation for giving passengers a good all-round view.

Yes, rode behind it that year. Very noisy and surprising turn of speed. Cannot believe it's 11 years ago..

I would love a ride behind the hall as I think it would be one of the only locos that would be louder!
