35018 British India Line

Quite. This does beg the question, "would scumbled teak stock look ok behind 35018?"

 

If an test run is activated for tomorrow the engine would be in steam today being warmed though, and receiving its FTR, so far i'm assuming there are no smoke signals emanating from Carnforth ? what ever is chosen to haul the Lune Rivers will need to be in steam tomorrow if its going to haul anything on Saturday

 

If Carnforth had another MN, would that make it BEN? , Bill and Ben the Merchant navy men

 

It's accurate insofar as it sets out how the train has been timed, and the top speed in the scheduled and the likely acceleration profile.

 

It wouldn't be a 2-BIL. That's something entirely different. ;-)

Best pinch 35029 from York museum and put the missing bits back! In the 1980s, I recall seeing container trains bound for Southampton which included large containers saying both "Ben Line" and "Ellerman". Apparently, Ben Line took over Ellerman Lines in 1970. (see here)

So, to recap on about 40 pages of this thread:

1. A locomotive is painted black for trials and allegedly for a bit of a jest for good measure.

2. The response is condemnation from some and indifference from others.

3. The latter accuse the former of being armchair enthusiasts and lacking a sense of humour, and the former accuse the latter that they are not engaging in debate.

4. About 30 pages or so of this later, it emerges that the locomotive has been finished off in green after all.

5. About two pages later, both groups more or less shift their argument and start to blame each other for starting the original argument.

6. And in the meantime, life goes on.

 

One minor element you missed was the "knowledgable" folk pedalling the risible idea that it would be turned out in a style to displease those that wished for it to be authentic because the owner is cussed that way. That certainly added plenty of futile pages.

 

The 'F' or the 'C' word can certainly still cause controversy in life, what's certain on here though is when the 'L' word is mentioned it can really light the blue (BR Express Passenger) touch paper!

 

As mentioned in a previous post I wonder how many of those people who have had a go at West Coast and David Smith etc will be brave enough to say that phrase 'made a mistake there, I'm sorry' not many I'll wager.
