My comment certainly wasn't meant as just a "paint everything in BR liveries" one. Yes, the owners have stuck to their guns, and kudos to them, but, as I said, you have to evolve or die. The previous revenue streams have, it seems, dried up, so it's time to try something different. Put her in green, get her running and earning. Once the bank balance is healthy, then you can go back to red - which is, of course, her signature livery.

The repaint to green was done by some of the photographers, one of whom was a professional painter so there was no labour cost. The same group may have done the second repaint but I'm not sure. There was a similar situation some years ago when Butler Henderson was put back in BR black for a time funded by photographers

Can any of the livery froth be regarded as anything but a personal viewpoint?
Are any locomotives are authentic as to BR condition? Or are they all carrying various inauthentic extra items? That being the case its just a question of the degree of compromise considered acceptable. In the case of locomotives that have had to be significantly altered to fit the current loading gauge I submit that claiming a BR livery is somehow more authentic than its pre nationalisation one is, well, you fill in the uncomplimentary word to your own choice.

Whilst it is important to be respectful to the views of the original saviours it is surely not sensible to do so to the extent it impinges on the prospects of a positive future the deceased were striving for. The livery issue is one minor element of what seems to be a generally antiquated and outmoded approach to managing the loco in the present day.

The choice of some mandatory date at which a loco's history is supposed to become fossilised always mystifies me. Bob only knows how many times how often we collectively jump through this particular hoop. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion of course, but sometimes I see comments to the effect that some period or other of a design's service life is somehow less valid on what comes down to purely personal viewpoints. I suspect some would argue for retention of asbestos on grounds of it being an original feature!

It can be when we are told that the group's abandoning its principles and repainting the engine into BR green will solve all its problems!

Totally agree, a completely spirious livery is another matter though.

Agreed but if they're the ones likely to fund the repairs, you need to offer them something that will keep them happy. It is the owning group's choice as to livery but sometimes you have to do whatever is needed to raise the money. I agree that "it's only a coat of paint" but if that's what's important to potential backers…………….

Principles are fine and dandy but if they get in the way of returning the loco to traffic, sometimes a rethink is needed. I wish the 6201 group well but at the moment it seems they're making very little progress.

Photographers funding a repaint for a charter is one thing - funding a boiler overhaul is something else!

Looking good in Maroon today (with the motion at least partly off) - and look what else I found near the loco!

Good news if the money has been found and contract for the boiler work to be done at CRRES.

If it means a swift return to working order under improved management it has to be welcomed.

6201 is moving to Carnforth as no more work can take place at the West Shed on 6201 till at least Autumn. It would appear that the early withdrawal of 6233 on which work is currently being undertaken is the reason. Maintenance work on 6201 will continue at Carnforth.

I suppose it's closer to Clive who lives up at Millom. How is fundraising going at the moment? I haven't seen the 6201 stand out at many railways or model shows trying to sign up new members/donors to get he back in steam.

Presumably there will be a substantial transport bill to move it to north Lancashire making a dent in the funds?
