The GCR Rolling Stock Trust uses social media now!
    https://www.facebook.com/GCRRST/

This trust tries to restore the few remaining GCR carriages. Therefore they do an important job in order to preserve the GCR heritage for the coming generations.

Viewable without having to register with Fbk.
Why can't more sites do that?

Indeed, I've never understood the closed Facebook page mentality, especially while appealing for funds or help at the same time. If you want help or funds then you need to be as opening, welcoming and giving with information as possible in order to capture people's imagination!

Potentially of interest, I notice today on the GCR-RST fb page is an appeal for volunteers, donations and the like to restore the other carriages in the collection. Which is welcome- like I guess many others I'm interested in contributing, but I'd not come across (until today at least) an address to send donations to.

Noted on their fb page today is a 'come and see' event at Ruddington on September 17th, where restored 6-wheeler #946, the Barnums and suburban carriage (being converted to a stores van) #799 will be on display.

According to the latest MARCH (Mountsorrel & Rothley Community Heritage ) Newsletter, the restored 6 wheel GCR coach is going to move to the Museum building there for display until the new GCR/NRM outstation is opened.
Strikes me as a very sensible option, as it will be more easilly viewable there with a bit more room available and may attract a few more visitors to that site, which they certainly deserve. Frees up space at Ruddington as well so they can get on with their next project......

    It's already been moved there.

There's an interesting piece in the latest Mainline discussing the other vehicles in the collection and where they stand in the order of things.

I had a rather nice letter arrive in the post this morning from the GCR RST thanking me for some donations I've made and enclosing some information about their stock and how they're getting on restoring it. Very polite of them to acknowledge donations like that; if only all groups did the same! If any members of the Trust are here reading this I'd just like to say thank you very much and please keep up the splendid work.

    Lovely work there :)

I must admit I find those little Ruston & Hornsby 48DS locos very appealing; they have an almost toy-like quality :)

I had to look twice at the still image to be convinced it wasn't a superb quality model!

What a lovely restoration. The Ruston's a little gem too.

I've had a very polite letter thanking me for donating to their restoration fund. They're holding a joint open day, I suppose you could call it, with the 567 group on September 15 in Ruddington. I'm rather looking forward to that!- it will be nice to see the latest progress on the Barnum.

I'd like to thank the GCR-RST for making me feel most welcome at their AGM today; a most informative presentation on progress with Barnum #228 and the opportunity for interesting discussion with a few of the Trustees and the restoration team. A lot of impressive work is ongoing with #228; the hope is to get it back in service in around two years' time.

I went to Ruddington for the first time in about a decade over the new year... Having seen the Barnum coaches and rotting monoliths about 20 years ago there is is encouraging to see the first one being worked on.

The large loading gauge and straight sides give an imposing look similar to some of the continental coaches on the NVR...

It will be a treat when complete.
