It'd be rather surprising if everything worked first time out of the box, on either loco or trackwork used to smaller locos (dunno about "Lyd's" pony trucks). It's near inevitable that there'll be a few 'snagging' issues and adjustments (boiler pressure has been mentioned).

If this is the sort of froth thrown up by the L&B doing so much to accommodate everyone, is it any wonder some sites prefer to keep all their work under wraps? For the record, if I were bedding in some seriously expensive kit and arranging crew training, I wouldn't have us lot traipsing around under everyones feet, making unhelpful remarks either!

Be thankful the folks at Woody Bay are nicer than me. I'd have Yeo Exe and Taw* on hand to 'discourage' unwelcome visitors

    * No, not the three Manning Wardle locos..... three bl**dy great rottweilers!

Please see update on Lyn on the L&B website. That should put conspiracy theories to bed.

    This specific update today:
    http://www.lynton-rail.co.uk/story/4th-october-update

-so this was already known about. I have to say, from what I saw of 762 running round at Killington lane it looked OK, but appearances can be deceptive, and the turnouts are pretty sharp.

Sounds like no further speculation is required.

You can see Lyd taking it pretty gingerly over this crossing here.

... or at least happy not to derail;)

There is no need for guesswork in this. There are several good graphical methods to check the curve running before testing in reality.
I usually use the quite simple Roy method, which seems to work quite OK for 600 mm gauge locomotives.
In this method the gauge of the loco wheels is reduced to zero, the side play of the wheels in the track is drawn in full scale, the axle distances is drawn in scale 1/10 and the radius of the curve is drawn in 1/100.
When this is done in a drawing program (I use Corel Draw) you can have the loco as one object and move it over the curve to see if it fits.
The illustration is for our Swedish built 2-4-2T in a 40 m curve running from right to left, see #426 in this thread.
As can be seen, the front pony truck runs at full swing along the outer rail, the front coupled axle also follows the outer rail, the second coupled axle runs almost radially and the rear pony truck follows easily the outer rail.
    Kurvgång Vira 2.jpg
A slightly more complex is the Vogel method, which gives a little more information.
I don't know any references in English, but descriptions of these or similar tools should be available.

If you are referring to movement from the platform road across to the loop at the start of the run-round, the footplate crew have very limited visibility at that point. It is not unheard of for tourist and enthusiast photographers to step off the Killington Lane platform and park themselves along the length of the run-round loop! Hence the need for extreme caution when undertaking that movement.

    No!

Probably not next year either, but maybe in 2019...

Lyn (with Axe, so presumably top and tailing) will be running one day only on Saturday.

Half the ticket revenue this weekend goes to North Devon Children's Hospice.

Just fantastic to see all the photos and videos of the new Lyn. Congratulations to all involved!
I have always liked the loco very much, ever since I bought the first L&B book many years ago.
But I have always thought that the photographer had a bad day at work when he took the delivery photo of Lyn almost 120 years ago.
The light setting didn't come out very good. As long as no one suggests that the side tanks were anything but glossy black, I think it could be worth while to try to correct the light.
A few years ago I had a go in Photopaint, and this is the result.
Nothing changed in the actual photo, just the light setting.

I had always understood that was the Baldwin factory photograph, and the livery was olive green with gold lining, style 233 which was the standard colour of the day. Whilst that photo has always looked black, but I could very easily believe, in your lightened version, those domes were green. It certainly does not look like the "light holly green" that the L&B M-W's were painted.

My understanding was that 'Lyn's' original livery was lined black, but I'm prepared to be corrected. I'll be interested to learn what the authoritative answer actually is.

The new 'Lyn Returns' book by Best, Gaylor & Philips, page14, is of the opinion that the original livery put on by Baldwins was olive green and gold.

This one's going to run for a while! :D

Personally, I'm just delighted to see a welcome addition to the operational L&B stud.

I also have a copy of Lyn Returns (highly recommended, available from the L&B online shop via their website). The evidence is that this livery is listed in the Baldwin specification, and is annotated "ok". This would seem to be fairly conclusive, no?

This artwork is from the creative genius of Australian David Fletcher- who knows quite a bit about this.

Pity...personally I always thought that black lined yellow, as previously suggested in published sources, would have suited her rather well!

Three quotas have been asked for for the new points with one come back which is rather hot, and with about three months delivery from the order been placed they are hoping to get the new points in place during March, so Lyn will be able to be used once the main season starts.
