Does that mean you cut the scone in half and put the cream and jam between the two halves? These things are important.

No, no, no, oh that would make my head spin far too messy, cut in half, apply butter, jam and cream to both sides thickly, run out of cream go back and get some more saying they didn’t give you enough and eat as ‘open’ halves. Wait half an hour and say to your partner 'Oh I feel sick I wish I hadn't eaten that'. Then lie down and fall into a carb coma. Less mess and more cream, it’s the only way to go, I thought everybody knew that :):):):):):)

There is - or was 5 years ago, at any rate - a café in Dunster village that offered a cream tea with ginger scones and honey instead of jam. I felt very very sick after eating a large one.

Definitely. However they do funny things in Somerset; especially after a glass or three of cider.

I actually had breakfast on the 900 service from BL. Later on at about 1300 I had sausage and mash for lunch followed by apple pie and custard as the ADB had sold out.

RAOTFLOL! In the interest of accuracy I never drink cider, and only have about one pint of beer per month always with a meal. On the QB I only drank coffee, water and orange juice.

Lucky man. I was one of the 18 unfortunate travellers who Barrie was unable to squeeze into the dining car on the down run, but most of us enjoyed a good breakfast on the return up trip. You, Yorkshireman, benefited by being offered the lunch menu at that point. Do you have undue influence with the management, or just a pretty face?

Ha ha Ha! Because of the fact that I use a mobility scooter to get from the car park to the guards van I asked QB Steward to keep me a place on the 900 as it takes me some time to get from there to the QB coaches on foot which he kindlty did. No undue influence just a polite request a few weeks before. The QB was full by the time I got to it. I did not have lunch until the next down run at around 1300 so it was you who ate the ADB I had planned for lunch! The lunch menu was not offered until after you had had your breakfast. I have suggested to the QB management that some form of advance booking be trialed at the Winter running of the QB. This should ensure that the full demand for breakfast can be met without the risk of wastage.

Some of us, in the name of moving the WSR forward in heritage terms, have worked on significant matters such as repatriating a GWR carriage from Pennsylvania, USA.

Some members of the public will ignore whatever signs are erected. As a professional 'ambulance chaser' if appropriate signage is erected and ignored, then the Railway will have done what it can, as long as it deals promptly with non-compliant behaviour.

Modern signs on galvanised posts are not required - better 'heritage' alternatives are available - and are certainly not required in silly places like walkways only used for Signalmen to deliver or retrieve tokens.

The nub of what you say is in the word "appropriate". Yes putting sign up where they will only apply to signallers is OTT. However, providing modern signage e.g. at occupation crossings, where the consequences of foolishness and laziness can be severe is far from excessive. This includes setting out the present day penalties for infringements. The style in which the notices are executed is another matter.
