Is that now the case? It didn't used to be. There is nothing in RSPB pt 5 requiring them as far as I know and I was told by HMRI that they didn't insist on them. Admittedly 10 years ago.

There is a grass verge on the bridge.

There were supposed to be lights, carriageway narrowing to one lane and proper pavements on the bridge as in the section 106 agreement related to Station Farm but that seems to have fallen by the wayside.

    Poor management again?

May have missed a later post on this subject. Does your Grand Design allow for the 28 bus to pick up and set down nearby ? Something that should be encouraged, I imagine.

Actually you could be right, it is advisory not mandatory. However since ROGS the infrastructure manager has to justify non-compliance, rather than simply seeking permission from HMRI. Several heritage lines have installed them on new platforms, WSR at Norton Fitzwarren being a case in point.

Non compliance with what, though? Neither Railway safety principle 11 nor RSPG mention the provision of tactile paviours

It's in the ORR "Guidance on Minor Railways" under the platform section.

From Guidance on Minor Railways RSP005

204 All platforms should slope away from the adjacent track and have an anti-slip surface. In accordance with DfT guidance, platforms should be provided with a tactile surface to indicate the edge to visually impaired people. Platform edges (but not platform ramps) should be clearly defined with a strip of a lighter colour.

That either means you have resigned, or the other board members have. I assume the former. Very sad that the WSR PLC should lose all your expertise.

Humble pie time. I actually read through the section on platforms before posting to confirm my thoughts. How I missed that sentence I can't explain.

So how many would be photographers have actually been fined £1000 (or even Forty Shillings) for trespassing on the West Somerset Railway?

Sorry not enough width to turn a long bus. seen some trying 10 point turns recently when engines unloading.

Bus turning circles vary enormously. My normal steed (ADL E400) can be turned in little over its own length, but occasionally if I drive a different model (such as a Daf with Wright body) I struggle to get round and have to do a quick shunt back halfway through a turn.

When engines unloading, buses do not have access to lower car park, so not sure I understand this comment.

In any event, area would be subject to radical alterations to implement this rearrangement, so I have no doubt that sufficient space available.

West Somerset Railway - Then and Now #95

    Bishops Lydeard signal box 1962 / 2017

Let's take a shot or two to look at Bishops Lydeard signal box, which was brought into use in 1906, to provide an extra passing place on the branch.

Onbthe 1962 shot a 3MT tank heads a 7 coach train whereas in 2017 'Foxcote Manor' is arriving with a 6 coach train.

The Station Master's house is just in shot on the left and the modern platform extension is very evident.

So no chance of a relaxation or special dispensation on these sorts of things? Brown nosing, paperwork hoops to jump through and extra associated fees required no doubt....

It is entirely possible they may just have had a slightly larger pool of locos to choose from....
