When I visited the VoR earlier this year, the gentlemen showing us round suggested that the locos stored in the shed at Capel Bangor may well include the Lawleys as well as the ex-Sena estates Fowlers, Kowloon Bagnall and other locos that used to be displayed in the open at Aberystwyth. He did say the shed resembled a NG Barry scrapyard and you could hardly move around inside!

I also recall seeing a thread on Facebook (public NG group) fairly recently discussing these locos, which suggested that there were 2 locos and 3 tenders imported. It also said that both locos are in very poor condition and even a cosmetic restoration job would be quite a challenge.

Hopefully, the Sabrero locos have faired a bit better whilst in storage and we can look forward to seeing one, even if just cosmetically restored, at the VoR at some date in the future.

Many years ago I heard that in the collection there where 2 x 550mm gauge locos both Hudswell Clark locos, the story I was told was that the boilers where beyond saving and the Brass /Copper from them was sold as scrap to fund the first bit of LYD, that being the case and as things have moved on I wonder just how difficult it is going to be to rebuild many of these locos or are they now only suitable to use as patterns?

I believe the two Hudswell Clarke locos in question are Santa Ana and San Justo and that the former at least did spend some time in store at the Brecon Mountain Railway (there is a photo of the loco on www.steamlocomotive.info which appears to be taken in the workshops there)
I had heard suggestions that one of the pair, I'd assumed San Justo, was without a boiler but have no idea whether it arrived in that condition or the boiler was a later casualty.

Hi Chris the loco that you may have seen is in fact No 1 a 2-6-2 that Mike Hart brought back from Brazil it is very difficult to find any photos of these locos at the best of time.

No, I think Chris is right, the Industrial Railway Society publications show both Santa Anna and San Justo going to the Brecon Mountain Railway in 1985 and 1988 respectively; both moving to deepest Surrey in 1996.

I remember seeing Santa Ana at Brecon back in the early 80s but as others have said it later disappeared. They also had NG15 No.146 and NGG13 Garratt No.77 but that's another story.

Actually, the link I posted should only have taken you to the home page, not a specific loco. (Mainly because I'd just typed the site address as text and Microsoft decided to turn it into a link!)

Wasn't San Justo at Launceston in the 80s and the boiler scrapped there? I have a dim memory of reading something along those lines at the time...
