Our final day in Fort William today, a couple of minutes before the train arrives and the heavens open, only to be followed by a minute or so gap in the clouds for the sun. Sometimes, it does work in our favour.

My own from yesterday's The Jacobite run at Glenfinnan. Two manage the exact same location twice in one week, being one of the very few places to experience any sunshine at all, was both frustrating and rewarding.

Another great main season from West Coast, Riley & Son's, NELPG and all support crews involved. Here's looking to December already!

Thankyou Henry, it is just a shame all those up there didn't get any luck as it's a fair old trek for anyone!

The weather for the last week of the Jacobite was best described as challenging and frustrating. To illustrate the latter the first picture was taken less than half a mile from where Karl and John took their perfectly lit shots. The second is at the little photographed Ardnambuth Viaduct, its a bit hidden away and a fair old hike from the road. I've posted more on the Photography

You were lucky it was still raining when it crossed the viaduct

Nothing wrong with either of those two shots John, yes a bit of sun always helps but we know it does not appear all the time.

Cracking shot Jonathon, you obviously know where the light switch is, or have you a friendly helicopter pilot with a few of those mini sun floodlights fitted.....

I am amazed at the quality and wealth of footage that comes from this single line over the years. Many thanks to those who travel, those who film and photograph and those who run both the engines and the organization of this privilege. I really must put this on my list of experiences to achieve in the next 10 years.

It's a magical part of the world, but a word of warning, it can be very addictive. I've been going every year since 2001 and will probably go twice next year and at a 490 mile drive Fort William is not exactly just down the road.
