Or, how about - In 2018 it will undergo assessment to see what works might be necessary to return it to steam.

I don't know what you call this style of LSWR livery (?Drummond) with the brown edging, but to my mind it is the best LSWR one that I have seen. I have recently seen a colour photo of 563 wearing this style taken at Brighton on a memorable day in April 1958 IMG_0142 copy.jpg

Personally speaking I do not care what livery it carries but I do hope that they dispense with that ugly Adams stove pipe chimney in favor of the more stylish Drummond version. I can never get used to the Bluebell's Adams tank with its current stove pipe - it ruins the looks of a lovely engine to my mind.

Anyway good luck to Swanage with their plans for 563.

Just for clarification, 2018 is the assessement and strip down year.

Providing fundraising goes well we will hit the go button at the point where we know we can reliably fund it through the overhaul period. No money, will mean no overhaul.

All crowdfunder donations can be gift aid and any donations you make direct can also be gift aid.

More paint froth, I'm afraid! Since the Swanage Railway does rather a good job of recreating a 1950s/60s atmosphere, why not (initially, at least) turn out 563 in her final SR mechanical condition, painted in the almost-but-not-quite LSWR pale green livery applied to (30)120? ;-) Longer term, I'd like to see both 563 and 120 in matching liveries. The choice would be between Urie-era LSWR and (almost) any SR livery up to 563's final repaint. (I realise this also depends on whether 120 returns to Swanage if/when she gets another overhaul, and that that's another topic...)

All this livery froth is completely 'cart before horse' in my view. First things first peeps. Personally, I couldn't give a hoot if Swanage "do a Blodge" and it first steams in plain black ..... as long as it steams!

What on earth is "do a Blodge"? Not another livery scheme surely?

Boston Lodge have developed a tradition of turning out their major jobs in plain unadorned black for comissioning tests. In the case of "Lyd", someone (Mr.Lewin?) decided to have a bit of fun lining it out to be presented as BR 30190, complete with smokebox numberplate before the Maunsell livery was applied.

@OldChap I've seen "Lyd" in BR livery before, but didn't know "Tal" ever wore green. Is that genuine or photoshop?

I can see the bufferbeam clearly enough and looked at an Ishihara test image to be on the safe side, so I'm ruling out colour blindness!

The new Taliesin has never been painted green. The old one may well have been green during it's early years

The Boston Lodge plain black thing came about more by accident than design. On several occasions locos have been completed in time for the summer service but there has not been enough time for a proper paint job, so they ran in black until the winter.

It's extraordinary. If you had asked me five years ago that we'd have a new build P2, Patriot, Bluebell extension to East Grinstead, and any number of other amazing things railway preservation has done this decade, putting the T3 back into steam wouldn't even enter my head - it was in Canada at the time!

I really do hope this all happens. Once my finances are a bit better I will put a lump sum in - how could I not?

    Good luck ladies and gents.

We shouldn't forget 30053 also had an extended break 'over the pond'. It was good of the cousins to keep it safe for a few years.

Seconded; I'll put my money where my mouth is too, once HMRC have been appeased over this year's Corporation Tax bill

Yes indeed. It's easy to forget. The M7 seems so eponymous with the Swanage Railway that it's easy to forget that 40 years ago, most of us would never have dreamed it would return to the UK. Mind you, were it still across the pond, I do wonder whether we might have seen 245 loaned out by the NRM.
