Yes it is actually part of the SLL 'umbrella' anyway. I understand it is nearing completion at Sellindge and thoughts are now turning to who might hire it. Unfortunately I doubt SwanRail will (over to you Mr Cox!!!) but you never know!

Little bit of news from up shed today:
73101 arrived today. Also today the concrete lorry arrived to cement the base of the boiler shop crane that will be erected some time in the near future to aid boiler repair work.

5199 looks good in the picture. Is the Bluebell visit still on? It has all gone quiet on that story recently.

I am old enough to remember 'Jennifer' hauling the two Class 100 Gloucester DMUs (4 cars) around on the NYMR in 1982, a task she managed with ease. I can't imagine the NYMR sending out such a combination as a service train for the full round trip now though. At least Jennifer is still in one piece - unlike one of the DMU sets she hauled!

73101 looks nice, hope to get across next weekend for that!

The news on jennifer is that she will be in the kind of apple green livery that she once carried while in industrial use. It's been well researched so it's going to be correct and will look very nice. As of yesterday she is having her new smokebox installed and the holes drilled by the shed staff.
She will also carry a nameplate with Jennifer written on it, owners choice.

Yes, she WILL be there by the end of this month. Just a few loose ends to tie up before we can get her on the lorry. Sorry it's taken so long but hopefully it will be worth the wait.

Thanks for that news. I'm sure it will be worth the wait. I'm certainly looking forward to it. 1450 and the Auto Trailer seemed to go down pretty well at the Bluebell earlier in the year. Quite an influx of GWR tank engines in the South East this year with 5552 and 6619 due to visit the K&ESR at some point.

Has it been cast yet? The photo in the OP just shows the pattern...

That isn't the pattern and believe me i thought it was when i first saw it. That is the new cylinder and it will look less like a pattern when it is machined.

That looks remarkably shiny! Has it had a re-varnish?

Don't think she has, though Broomhalla will be able to confirm seeing as he's done most of the cleaning (seriously, he really has!).

I can't take the credit for all of it since a very good person by the name of Simon and his wife have done tireless cleaning on 5199 even over my cleaning as a matter of fact.

A cylinder pattern would not have the 'bore' as a void, it would be a black painted male spigot protruding at each end of the cylinder, so that one impressed in the moulding sand, an additional baked sand 'core' would locate in the impression made by these spigots, producing the rough bore once cast.

Industrials are fun, yes they are often harder on the crew than ex mainline engines but that's all part of it. A good many of us cut our teeth on industrials in the earlier days. I wish we still had an industrial at Swanage for a bit of variety.[/quote]

Indeed industrials are fun. Infact, I passed out as a fireman on a Peckett. I can tell you there's nothing more satisfying than coming up a 1in88 grade with an Andrew Barclay, hauling 4 Mark 1s, and having the needle on the red line!!! We've had to do this once or twice at the Spa Valley at Thomas events.

Don't get me wrong, I like having mainline engines too and given a choice, I'd rather use a mainline engine on these bigger trains. But occasionally its nice to pick the shovel up on the smaller engines and see if you really can still do it!!!!

Ah, but it's clearly had a coat of pattern paint, so it must be an experimental wooden cylinder!

Oops...couple of days too late... 8-[
