Mark 1's 4651 and 4667 have moved from the North Norfolk Railway to the Churnet Valley Railway this week, they are on hire for the winter months and shall return to their base before the 2018 season starts proper. They will be used for two galas (October and February?) and Santa Specials throughout December.

I believe the vehicles are going to form part of a new linear scrapyard at Havenstreet!

More seriously, we have been refurbishing and repainting the vans that will one day become chassis donors, particularly those that can be seen by the public.:)

PMV 1458 was receiving attention at Havenstreet within a couple of weeks of its arrival, a full mechanical exam has been carried out and it is now receiving a bit of TLC to the underframe and the body.

You need to read (and digest) post No. 346, particularly the words "can be seen by the public". Re-tyring a bogie carriage costs in the region of £20,000 so it makes sense to locate possible second=hand replacements whilst they are still available.

Is the bogie B destined to become the underframe for the 8 compartment all 3rd body ? whilst the PMV underframes will provide suitable underframes for 4 wheelers, how many underframes does the railway have that would be suitable as bogie coach donors ? as i understand it, you have a further two bogie coach bodies on the railway .

We have 2 complete LCDR brake 3rd bodies they will use the 2 ex-weed killer scenery vans that came from Horsham a few years ago, this will enable both to have identical underframes.. The bogie B will likely be used on LCDR 7 comp 3rd 2418 which is in two halves.

Thats going to give you a three car LCDR rake are you keeping both brakes as brakes or rebuild one as a further7, or 8 compartment ? or are there differences with in the brake vehicles some did have more compartments than others ,

Both of the LCDR brakes are identical 4115 and 4116, the last I heard was that one will be panelled and the other steel sheeted to show the two styles. We would still have various LCDR body sections that could be combined with a small section of new build to create a composite, although an underframe might be a problem.

Thanks Gary, i suppose the best hope for you would be to get another underframe from somewhere if one becomes availible but these days, it would be be cause another vehicle is beyond restoration elsewhere and has been scrapped

It might be the time to tackle a new steel underframe :)

Gary - Doesn't the IOWSR have a Maunsell locomotive hauled underframe from a Hastings coach (TK No 1019?) a a donor for one of the LDCR bogie coaches as well?

It would be a possibility but it would make sense to have all of the LCDR coaches equipped with similar underframes.

Isn't there a LNWR under frame on the IOWSR too? Also I believe there is a LSWR bogie coach body grounded somewhere on the island that the IOWSR would like to get its hands on. Plenty to keep them busy anyway!

There is a LNWR underframe at Havenstreet, it was purchased for its wheelsets. This was a cheaper option at the time to get LBSCR brake 3rd back into service after having a very heavy repair (£20k plus) done to its underframe. 4168's original wheelsets needed new tyres but the £25k cost was beyond our means at the time, the wheelsets have since been fitted with new tyres are back under 4168. LBSCR and LNWR wheelsets are none standard.
