I would imagine for the market this is aimed at, be they the children or the diners, not sitting there cold is a prime consideration. Did 8F's or more specifically does this 8F actually have steam heat?

Jeez... here we go again! Why can't people run their trains on the network as they see fit without seemingly causing upset to bystanders who are not customers. I don't see complaints on Nat Pres when the NYMR provide diesel assistance to their trains when it is felt necessary so why do mainline operators get such stick? And I would not call this route undemanding - York - Scarborough is, but not Hellifield - Blackburn.

Back in the day they didn't have steam heat but I think 48151 has now. I think there are some rules regarding diesel assistance during the leaf fall season until the end of December, it's why the Belmond now runs with a diesel at the back. I don think WC would go to the expense of firing up a loco and paying a driver for the day unless they really had to.

Because they are damned when they do and damned when they don't. I share your frustration :Banghead:

Do you know if I am a customer or not??? Don't make accusations you have no foundation for. Could get you in trouble.

In a similar vein, where was the complaint in my post? It was a question. 48151 has taken the Hellifield to Blackburn route in it's stride before.

Seems inside your head is having problems.

Nice footage as usual ! No visible evidence of steam heating, so ETH keeps the passengers nice and warm and helps to maintain clear windows :)

Unassisted with a 13 coach train in far from perfect railhead conditions?

Peter you should know by now that, in the eyes of some, WCR are always going to get it wrong which ever decision they make. These people are experts in the world of running steam on the main line, and their tours never have any problems.
Oh hang on a minute, their first one hasn't run yet.
I wonder who would be one of the first to castigate them if the 8 had stalled, or heaven forbid, failed on Wilpshire.

    Santa 1b.jpg

LMS 8F Class 2-8-0 draws into platform 2 at Carnforth to pick up its passengers for the first of the 'Santa Specials' around the circuit. West Coast are to be
congratulated on an excellent day out with the engine performing well all day with Ron Smith on the reins his little helper Martin Soames on the shovel and
Mick Kelly with the diesel. The food and service provided by 'The Gravy Train' was superb and could not be faulted and was suitably washed down with
the odd tincture or two. There were many photters out all around the circuit but the gallery at Hellifield Green was the biggest I've ever seen there seemingly
stood on top of each other!! For all those booked on trips two and three be assured you will not be disappointed and do you know some thing else, I didn't hear
a single whinge about the diesel on the stern. A thoroughly enjoyable day so many thanks West Coast you did a grand job

Surely you're not suggesting that "Dobbs0054" wasn't a "customer" on this working? :)
