Has anyone else noted the poorer quality of the colour pages caompared with when the old regime were in charge?

It may be that the new team are taking a more responsible line with the money spent on producing it. The previous team were clearly out of control.

Are you feeling quite yourself today Yorkshireman? (I was almost tempted to ask if you were a little off colour).

You may well be correct but the current quality really is below what, IMHO, is acceptable.

As far as the journal was concerned it was not a team but a one man band.

That is indeed the case. We have stuck with a local printer rather than going to a cheaper 'offshore' as that feels like a more ethical approach. We know them well and they have always been very accommodating in meeting timescales, supplying proofs, doing extra work for free to correct things that might be required. Inevitable they are not quite as cheap as the offshore supplier, but even so they do give us good price. Against that, the WSRA has a smaller membership than it did and for all the reasons we know, has to control costs very carefully. That being the case, we went for silk cover for this edition rather than the more costly gloss and laminated. The printer also suggested a change to the inside pages which would have reduced costs even more, but at this stage we have stuck with the interior pages as they were. Whilst clearly a smart and very glossy magazine might look nicer, beauty is only skin deep and it's the content that counts!
I hope we have found a wide range of articles this time, but the cupboard is currently bare for the next edition. We encourage everybody to think about writing for the journal, preferably something relevent to the WSR, please send me your contributions!

I like the Mag. Cover has a “painting” feel to it and the pictures are of a high quality. P53 is lovely. The large clear print struck me as different but very readable. And the tenor and friendliness of the articles is welcome.

Personally, I dislike gloss printing. It is sometimes difficult to read if the light angles are not right as often happens. The low angle of the sun at this time of year and modern LED ceiling lights may play a part, but I prefer less gloss.
I also prefer to see cash spent wisely, and in the local economy wherever possible.
With reduced numbers for print runs, the possibility of doing cheaper subscriptions with an e-mag will eventually make it uneconomical to do a print copy, so enjoy it whilst you can!

There is a publication which Yorkshireman will be familiar with (RadCom) which has shiny pages, what appears to me as grey print rather than black in a weak font, and large expanses of horrid red or blue with inverse print in white.

Be careful what you wish for!

Having now read the Journal from cover to cover I found it to be a most enjoyable read and full of interesting information about what's been happening on the railway. I thought that the less glossy cover and inside pages were an improvement and I thought the photographs were very good.
Congratulations Ian on producing such an interesting publication.

And what is possible happening down on Wibble Farm? The dreaded BOGOF has shown its hand and several of the resident hawks have flown. The butterfly and Zebedee are hovering whilst the Last Hawk ponders on what is below. The Stoic is packing its trunk whilst the dormouse slumbers quietly in the corner and of dear old Auntie Florence reassembles her forces for the final assault. I think a reform is in the air and things will become interesting. Faol in Hunting mood.

It is the colour rendition that I don't like as it looks rather like 1950s Tecnicolor.

    Which one?

The 'Chairman of Williton', Williton Parish Council or what organisation?

As we how have followed the many pages of this thread and its predecessors know all too well, there are many option for who 'the Chairman' is even within the WSR family!

The WSR Chairman has resigned as per details on Steve Edge's site. From the grapvine I hear that there is much more news to come but without verification I can't say more.
