taking up Brighton Baltic's question from last September

"Also, where does this leave us in the tally of ex-Barry locos steamed? I think 76084 marked two-thirds?"

213 locos to be saved for preservation through Barry (a few of which were later scrapped as donor locos), on the Wikipedia list I counted 61 yet to steam in preservation. Which means 71.4% of locos to have survived Barry have ran again since. That's not too bad!

And work is ongoing on many of the remaining 61. How many more are likely to steam in the next 12 months?

They're there. Go down and it gives the status of each one. I'm too tired/can't be bothered to filter them out into a bespoke list :p

How many of those have a reasonable prospect of steaming, though? 42859 and 92245 for example theoretically could, but circumstance makes it vanishingly unlikely.

I was bored. Took the wikipedia list, no checks have been made. I may have deleted one or two entries by mistake, as not checking done on this copy. I included the scrapped locos (as they have not yet steamed). I am sure someone can update the progress on some of these as I believe 80097 is due out in the next month or two.

So out of those 61, there's 6 that definitely won't steam on account of being scrapped/sectioned: 2861, 4115, 3612, 6959, 35029 (although I think this one is doing a tremendous job exactly as it is) and 48518.

Leaving 55 potentials, although for all 55 to steam would presumably require a lot of optimism, a lot of work and money in excess of both.

A good number of those 59 are under active restoration and likely to return to steam before too long. 34010 and 30499 for example.

Also there are plenty of others that are in good hands and it's safe to say will be restored. 80100, 80150, 34058, 4110 to name a few.

Some examples of slow and fast progress on ex-Barry locos can be seen here. The transformation of 4253 is particularly impressive, whilst 6989 has taken years but is as good as done now.

When I bought my copy of the "Barry List" (a publication for the benefit of Urie Class S15 I believe) in the late 1970s I had absolutely no idea that so many of these locos would be restored to working order and become so popular.

Anybody have any idea where Wightwick Hall will be based once completed? With the best will in the world to the Bucks Railway Museum, I can't see a big GW 4-6-0 taking up permanent operational residence at a place with a very short demonstration line (although as I was typing this I thought that this has probably happened at Didcot when their Halls have been operational). Would be nice to see her stretching her legs somewhere a GW hall would fit in well but isn't often seen - Llangollen?

To bring it in a bit, how many are we likely to see in 2018?

80097 and 92134 at the ELR seem pretty certain, any others? 34010 mentioned above looks a couple of years away, how about 30499?

I think we could expect 6989 next year, looking at their website most of the big jobs seem to be done, I get the impression it's just a case of finishing the tender tank, putting it all back together and adding some paint. Not that that's insignificant, but the most complex and expensive jobs all look to be out of the way

    crunching some numbers......
of the 213 Locomotives that have left Woodhams Yard since September 1968, by my count 149 or 70% of them have now been returned to steam.
Of those that have not been steamed so far :
Two are used for museum display : 35029(sectioned) & 4248
Three have been used for donor parts where frames have not been cut : 2861, 5227 & 7927 (frames used for County Class)
Three have been used for donor parts where frames have been cut : 3612, 4115 & 48518
One has reputedly had it's boiler scrapped but frames remain? 42859
Hall Class 4942 is included and will return to steam in guise of 2999 Saint Class

That leaves 54 out there that have not yet returned to steam a few of which are imminent such as 6989, 80097, 92134 for example

Happy to be corrected if I have missed anything...

I was under the impression that 2861's frames had been cut. Unless anyone knows otherwise?

Yes, I believe this is correct, 2861 was cut up at Llangollen in 2014 with parts feeding 4709 & 3855.
I also missed that prairie 4121 has yet to steam and had counted that it had.
    So 148/213 have steamed with 4942/2999, 6989, 80097, 92134 & 4150 to come soon along with 6880 that includes boiler from 7927
