There are some fields very close to the station that might be suitable for an extra car park, including one across the road from the existing car park (i.e. on the other side of Westridge Way).

  2. Another resignation and there isn't a crisis....
    Right okay then.

Those who are rooting for the rail link are not talking of Cardiff to BL, they are talking of Cardiff to Minehead, the BL comment is a tangent, by a posters(s) here.

Well all I can say about all the chatter on the last few pages on here is that the WSR seam to be getting themselves into another pickle, even after the blood letting last time the amount of people on the board leaving means either they know something we don't OR it's just a massive coincidence
Any talk of building a new interchange station at NF is pie in the sky, could someone who thinks it's a good idea could they say how much money it would cost for contractors to construct a platform face alongside network rails tracks, who we all know want everything good plated. And exactly what services would any franchise willingly stop at the station, which would be of no benefit to them, not forgetting First operate the bus service that would be impacted by a connection, still not to worry I'm sure a goods shed will bring floods of public in, not sure who mind, that might be the same public that would be so confused with the sight of a 15X unit at the platform at MD to run into the estuary

Have you read his resignation statement on Steve Edge’s website? Nothing in that suggests a crisis simply that he has too much work with his day job.

  7. I'm minded to agree with the above as I'm not in favour of an interchange station at Norton. All the important passenger facilities - waiting, eating, toilets - are already at Taunton, which also has lots of trains from different TOCs already stopping there. That's the right place for any interchange. Of course current discussions suggest a possible TOC operated Taunton-Lydeard service. Lydeard does at least have some of the necessary facilities - except it would mean two changes of train for many passenger and I don't really see this option being popular for "through passengers" albeit great for those wanting to swop to the steamers (and thus possibly good for the WSR). A regular through service would have to be a TOC train running between Taunton and Minehead - something that I'd like to see, somehow. But for the life of me I cannot see how the necessary funds for capital and maintenance would be found, let alone the very sizeable annual subsidy to offset running costs...

(Sorry, @Captain F, but I don't feel motivated to comment on the other points in your posting)

    Steve

I comment on the post by Steve (WSRWiz). Being close to the WSR he has grasped what the plans of the commuter link really have in mind. He has obviously read the web site of the MRLG which outlines their aspirations. Whether this ever gets off the ground is another matter, but any debate should centre around those ideas rather than conjectural ones. I do feel clouding the issue with other ideas, BL and NF interchanges for instance and similar supposed ideas serve no real purpose other than to portray a disunited front drive against the MRLG proposals.
I believe the MRLG folk see main line trains arriving in Minehead and assume they got there without any difficulty or major changes to the present infrastructure. That, maybe, is one of their driving forces.
The challenges, even with the present infrastructure, have been well recorded here but I believe a focus needs to be maintained. The following is the link to the MRLG web site. (Assuming this is the most recent one)

Bad news, he's a thoroughly capable and decent chap.

I take great offence to this, my resignation is purely for personal reasons. I will not deny that like any other business, the WSR does face challenges. What it needs however is people who can fully commit to helping to steer the ship through. Unfortunately, my own circumstances mean it’s simply unfair for me to remain, I just can’t give the job the time it needs or deserves.

We must work together to help the WSR exist, pure speculation does nothing but hinder the good progress that takes place. I will still be assisting the railway through my active work on the frontline as well as finishing off some of the work I started whilst being a Director, to ensure business continuity and improvement.

I think you should consider what you post before you hit the send button.

Ben is greatly respected on the WSR, he has served the WSR well.

You may not know that of course,

    Or Care??

Good to hear clarity from the horses mouth so to speak, good to hear some facts amongst the speculation. Some members should take note of your comments.

Anyone who knows me that toeing the party line is not my style at all. My family motto is Vincit Omnia Veritas, Truth Conquers All. I simply quoted the facts, and have no inside knowledge of what might be happening at WSR PLC HQ. What do you know or are you just making it up as you go along?

Dinmore 7820 It sounds a pity you are resigning, It also sounds like the WSR is shaking itself to pieces again unnecessarily ,I hope not. You can sometimes do as much from outside the formal oganisation as within.;)

Figures don't have to be inaccurate to tell the story you want them to tell. Ask any accountant.
