Only too pleased to help. (edit, lochness8 thank you for the correction, quite right)

    BL Bishops Lydeard.
    MD Minehead.
    SEC Steam experience course
    DEC Diesel experience course
    WSR West Somerset Railway

I know some are obvious but I wanted to be thorough and cover all of them in Andy Norman's post.

It would help if people generally read through their posts before sending, corrected spelling mistakes /auto text errors as these often result in an alternate meaning that they did not intend.

    Adny!

I always thought SEC stood for slow, easy and comfortable.

    That would be "demi-sel"!

P.S. S.E.C.R carriages were indeed comfortable which is another reason to regret their low survival rate.

P.S. Post script. SECR South Eastern & Chatham Railway. Given we're on a railway forum I don't think it's unreasonable to use the initials for railway companies, otherwise we'd all be sat around forever typing out Great Western Railway, West Somerset Railway, Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway etc. etc.

You can never have too much of a good thing, of course, but I'd slightly challenge the notion about low survival rate of SECR carriages. I haven't checked, but I'd take a bet that there are more currently operational SE&CR carriages than from any other pre-grouping company.

Very likely so but you will know my thoughts about there not being enough "proper" branch line trains on tourist railways.

P.S, stands for "Post Scriptum" Conventional U.K. (United Kingdom ) usage for a written afterthought.

From my calculations, completely bare bones, 3 people.

    DMU Driver, Guard, Travelling Signalman.

If you were to do a ‘there and back’ a couple of times, you’ll probably want Bishops Lydeard, Williton, Blue Anchor and Minehead boxes staffed (Crowcombe Heathfield being switched out), which brings you to a total of 6 people.

Guard would deal with tickets, so revenue collection would be fine, albeit not through the usual booking offices.

Sorry for not using any accronyms, shorthand or initials... ;-)

My neighbours took their three-year-old for a Santa train on the WSR on Saturday. They had a lovely time, and in particular they kept mentioning the warm welcome and helpful attitude of everyone helping at the event who they encountered. They don't know of my interest, so it was a genuine, unsolicited opinion. They were telling everyone at the party, mainly parents of small children, what a great time they'd had and encouraging them to try it.

So, a lot of people involved in the railway are doing a lot of stuff right. I thought you'd like to know.

Only if you are Loco minded.
To other people with different priorities they mean totally different things.
To me SEC could mean Snow, Excavation and Crane.

Thanks for your comments, I was one of the Fireman on Saturday although I only fired Foxcote Manor light engine from Minehead to Williton (after some repairs) where we coupled inside 53808 and then double-headed from there to Bishops Lydeard on one of the Santa Express’s getting in just after dark. When stopping at Bishops Lydeard lots of parents and children walk up to the engine and always seem delighted when we ask if they would like to come up on the footplate for a look (carefully managed of course). Many photos of delighted children and parents always ensue, these photos no-doubt end up being shown to many, many friends and relatives. As you say it’s sometimes the simplest things and frankly we get a kick out of it as well so a win all round.

Please note no acronyms or abbreviations, I’ve learned my lesson :)
