    It makes sense for the crew that brings 45231 into Alton to take the 47 and ECS left behind yesterday back to Southall. No need for an accompanying diesel loco unless there's no steam driver with route knowledge available - it just means extra crew members, i.e. more cost. The MHR and NR each need a "person in charge" on the ground to cover the moves across the boundary, so it also makes sense for them to combine the two moves.

    At the time of writing the original ECS was not cancelled, hence the assumption and question mark.
