Following its repatriation from Nene Valley to Longueville in France 2 years ago, the De Glen compound 4-6-0 Nord 3.628 (SNCF 230 D 116) has now been cosmetically restored to fine condition, and is on display at AJECTA railway museum in Longueville.

Its restored state is shown in their blog here:
    http://ajecta.unblog.fr/2010/10/21/230d116-musee-ajecta-longueville-2010-3628-nord/

Going back a couple of years to when they bought it from Nene Valley, their blog at the time showed the state it was in then:
    http://ajecta.unblog.fr/2008/05/05/la-230-d-116-a-besoin-de-vous/

And for those with an interest in French mainline steam, I noticed on the site that they are planning a 3 day excursion from Toulouse via the Auvergne, round Paris and on to Longueville in September 2011, featuring 5 preserved mainline steam locos on the trip:

I believe this Engine was once owned by the UK National Railway Museum until they offloaded it to some private owner at the Nene Valley Railway who then didn't do a lot with it. Does anyone know how the NRM came to own it originally ?

It worked the official opening train on the NVR back in 1997 and worked fairly regularly until an overhaul was needed.

Edit : Fat fingers - The opening train on the NVR was 1977.

Yes, a beautiful engine - had some GWR connection I believe. She came to Didcot for a special weekend in the spring of 1985. I took a couple of snaps; will try to find them while the Christmas turkey is settling down.

Where did all that Pullman stock come from?

I regret to say, but when the NVR opened and I was a mere lad I didn't like the fact it had so much 'foreign stuff' and that sort of set me against it so I never visited it.

What a massive mistake that has proven to be :(

And so capable. Anyone care to guess what UK type would be the power output equivalent?

Correct. Fat fingers, aided by ale, resulted in a typo. 1977 it was. The Nord doubleheaded with the Swedish 2-6-2T. The 4-COR unit formed part of the train IIRC.

Plus a Belgian 0-4-0 tram loco under long term restoration (there has been talk over the years of turning this into a 'toby'/GER tram lookalike)

There is also a Swedish Railcar, and a trailer for this was imported from Sweden earlier this year, with restoration currently underway

You've been reading some of the same books as lodge on my shelves. The King and the rebuilt Scot are the only British 4-6-0s that could dependably equal the output of these modest mixed traffic machines.

Indeed so. Ever since I visited Mulhouse I have thought all British railway enthusiasts should aim to go there and be prepared to think very very seriously indeed,

It was a visit to Mulhouse and the purchase of "Les 141P De valeureuses Mikado" by Collardey and Rasserie whilst there one snowy Easter 20 or so years ago that really started my broader locomotive thinking. Then someone pointed out TUSP and so Porta, Wardale and others came to my attention. I've been on a slippery slope ever since.
