Thanks, Yorkshireman, I'll try that soon. I did have a couple of suggestions for places in Bishops Lydeard village last year, then checked their websites and found they had just stopped doing B&B.

I'm mindful of the experiences of the Ffestiniog a few years ago, though. The company did ask staff for recommendations and published them on their website, then a year or two later found their volunteers complaining that they couldn't find their usual beds because they were all fully booked........... so they stopped publishing them, and refer enquiries to the local tourist association.

The Ffestiniog is noted for it's provision of good hostel accomodation too - new build, (no old coaches in use, these may have long been restored as vintage stock) or at least one converted original station building. I don't know if anyone sleeps at Boston Lodge nowadays.

I can personally testify that the Lethbridge Arms at Bishops Lydeard is now in good hands again. I can’t speak for the accommodation, but the food is good and the cider is served at the correct temperature. Others will have to comment on the beer. If you are visiting in 2018, do give it a try.

The White Horse in Stogumber does wonderful real suet steak and kidney puddings and the beer was fine. Can’t comment on the accommodation. Paul Kibbey stayed at the Lethbbrige last weekend and I believe at least one other resident of these pages. They might care to comment,

I use the Lethbridge weekly during the season, there is always a warm welcome and the food is good. The accommodation competes well and I'd suggest is a cut above any of the chain hotels. I have been using it for over 10 years. It has changed hands at least 3 times in that period. The current tenants are coming up to two years now and have really spruced the place up since they took over. The selection of ales will rival most any chain pub except Wetherspoons. the menus are varied and the food of a good standard and served hot. Like Robin, when in the west country I drink the Thatchers.
As to distance, it's on the doorstep. Its further from one end of the BL site to the other than it is from the BL site to the pub.

I was wondering about that. If they are interlocked, why aren't they on the same frame. If they're not interlocked, why not?

I thought they were yet yesterday a couple came through the gate on the box side. He started across the back end of the down with 3 or 4 dogs and stopped in the 4ft of the up, his wife started across with some more dogs when he started back calling to her the train was coming in. Literally. By the time he got back to the box corner and dragged the dogs in tight the up was coming to a stand.

Re the Lethbridge, when we used to go there I never found any 'poor beer' it was always quite good, whoever the landlord was!

    Why an LMS Blanket?

Bury St Edmunds? I have heard is suggested that round there the law is more trial by fire and The Common Law hasn't quite got there yet

Because I donated my GWR ones to the WSSRT for use with the Sleeping Car in Bishops Lydeard Museum. They are small, Light, warm and ideal for the above purpose.

Folk who say things like that deserve what they get in regional courts. ‘Trial by Battle’ isn’t quite dead yet!

No. A lawyer ‘running’ A case for their client is usually said to have ‘conduct’. I usually put it that way because otherwise folk can get the impression that I am the subject of the case. Between lawyers, a barrister is usually said to be ‘appearing’ on behalf of a client, but that is a bit too theatrical for most lay folk. That being said, any successful case will involve a degree of choreography.:Blackalien:

I like the ‘affray’ a bit too much to be the judge (‘referee’). And besides, as is well known:rolleyes:, working out my appetite for a punch-up in Court means I can be sweetness and light when on the Railway.:Angelic:
