    Here are 90 photos taken in 2015 at the Rizhskiy railway museum in north Moscow, next to the train station of the same name. The loco classes are shown in chronological order. Most were built in Soviet times:

    One funny, and smart, detail I heard:
    The TE class were captured std gauge German BR 52 Kriegslok.

    The Russians managed to regauge these without changing the frames, axle boxes or cylinders. This is NOT trivial.
    What they did was to shift the right and left wheels on the same axle so the inside of the wheels were turned outwards.
    The wheel centres were protruding outwards and completely flat inwards as built, thus the wheel rims were offset inwards.
    When shifted the wheel rims were offset outwards instead and with new wheel tires they fitted the wider gauge.
    Note the axle ends in the picture.
