    Mental Flatulence alert....

'When Tornado bows out next year chances are the Boiler will go back to Germany for a service/ retube ?
When it returns the chances of a P2 bottom end being almost complete are looking very real and surely the opportunity/ temptation to 'Trial fit' on P2 first would be hard to pass up...'

Apologies Please Correct/ Mock/ ignore as you see fit...

Why would the boiler have to go all the way back to Germany for a retube? There are plenty of British organisations and companies capable of completing much more complex boiler overhauls than a retube (which has been proved countless times in preservation), why not save money on international transport and keep it in the country?

Maybe they are the experts, they built it, they maybe cheaper than UK, they can turn it around quicker.

Think for mid term overhaul, they did corner replacements, together with all other items in double quick time.

Personally would have no issues with it going abroad, they did a good enough job producing it in the first place, teething troubles aside.

They will also have all the jigs, templates etc.. , for part manufacturing....

Errr.... I'm not sure where this idea originated but Tornado's boiler had a major overhaul in 2015 and the clock was re-set as of that year and, all being well, won't need lifting until 2022 by which time No. 2007 should be in traffic!

Sorry folks, took my eyes of the calendar - Had it in mind that all that happened in 2013 - and was part of a deliberate ' twice in 10 years' maintenance cycle.
So apart from the usual winter Maintenance as you say when Tornado goes back into the works Fingers crossed P2 will be coming out...

Great news! Going to be quite a sight seeing the rolling chassis! Exciting to see the first parts for the V4 have been acquired!

Not really, it was his dream to build a replica V4 and so he'd started collecting parts for it, starting with a set of 5'8" tyres!

Yes indeed, just read the beano myself, nice to see somebody's dream move into reality.
Notice there is no mention of the donated Chimney... but then it wouldn't surprise me, given the A1SLT'S lyrical waxings about the Kyllchap, if the V4 gets one as well- albeit a single, which may not be compatible.

A double Kylchap would look wrong on a V4, but a single would probably work well. GW 0-6-2T was fitted with one at the NYMR and from what I heard it worked well. No doubt Steve could tell more.

Presumably these are required to prevent axial movement between the wheelset and the frames.
