We're almost ready to paint our restored Queen Mary, and rather than going for an early livery, we'd like to repaint it in its EWS livery, as it spent half of its life with them. We're after the true colour paint codes for the EWS "maroon & gold" please if any body can help? Many thanks.

Not sure who they got their paint from but Have you not tried just ringing TR Williamsons and just speaking with them directly as this is where most groups get their Railway paint.

I would suggest getting into contact with the Dean Forest Railway for this one, specifically the diesel group based there. They are one of the few preservationists I can recall that have painted a vehicle back into EWS livery (Class 31 31466), and very nice it looked too! Being used to very faded 66's still wandering around in the livery on the mainline, I'd almost forgotten what it looked like shiny!

Can we just say thanks to Luke from Dean Forest Railway for the very useful response including photo, very helpful thanks. Look forward to sending you some photos in due course as promised.

Also, many thanks 'toplight', it takes one to state the obvious sometimes, lol.
I've since been in touch with Jodi at Williamson Paints (where we get our other paints from anyhow), and she has promptly sent me some samples, which I'll hopefully get my hands on this week.

    Thanks all :)

I wonder if this is the one I went to see at Bescot some years ago?

Thats the one, many thanks. When I inspected it, all was mechanically sound and dual braked, bot not one sound piece of timber anywhere.

Why were the Queen Mary brake vans built ? What was the reason for building such a big van ?

From Wikipedia page on brake vans:
"The Southern Railway built some twin-bogie brake vans on redundant electric locomotive chassis, termed the "Queen Mary" brake vans. Designed for high speed operation on milk and parcels trains rather than stopping power, they had a lengthened cabin, but did not cover the entire twin-bogie chassis."
