    That’s true.

Also some parts of the valve gear, but not all. The buffers. Bogies are the same in theory on the original A1s and A2s I believe.

Cartazzi components can probably be swapped over without major fuss.

The smokebox door? If you really wanted to? The whole tender is swappable and was in BR days.

You can’t however swap the boilers over. Cabs probably very similar but not a straight swap (firebox size?)

Lots of sundries and small casting items are LNER standard parts, hence the reuse for P2 2007 as well.

Q ? Thought that the external Dimensions of the Tornado Boiler is exactly the same as an LNER diagram 118, which is the same as Blue Peter therefore the two should be interchangeable...

The multi valve regulator boilers were not directly interchangeable with the standard boilers.

Why is the rodding for the regulator on the rhs when the locos were built (I think) as lh drive? Was the LNER offered a batch of kit made for someone else?

Ah yes I see, learn a little everyday.
However it would still be technically possible to swap boilers, you would just have to swap smokebox and regulator also... ?

I know that livery debates are all too common on this forum and I hesitate to start one, but in the case of Blue Peter, the choice of livery when it emerges from overhaul will be particularly interesting in view of the high profile enjoyed by its larger-wheeled cousin. Apple green would highlight the similarities to Tornado and could even lead to the possibility of perhaps being mistaken for Tornado whereas later BR Green (Brunswick, mid chrome, call it what you will ) would be a definite determination to tell the world that "no, this is NOT Tornado." It will be interesting to discover in due course which of the two options will be chosen.

Except for if and when Tornado goes back to BR green of course...

Anyway, I vote for apple green because hurrah for pre-nationalisation liveries!

Blue Peter entered traffic in 1948 in the same livery as Tornado is in now. It would probably be more sensible to go for BR dark green to try and avoid confusion but only the owner will decide

I still count that as pre-nationalisation even if it does have BRITISH RAILWAYS written on it!

As you say, end of the day it's owner's decision, and I have a sneaking suspicion it probably will end up in BR green - has it carried this in preservation before? All of Blue Peter's preservation exploits are long before my time.

When first restored in the 1970s, she was in Apple Green, numbered 532 and with LNER on the tender. This was incorrect, of course, but owner's perogative. She had come into service in early 1948, as mentioned above, in Apple Green but numbered 60532 and with BRITISH RAILWAYS on the tender. She only subsequently carried this livery during her last couple of years on static display at Barrow Hill, and this was done just prior to a visit there by Tornado, if memory serves. She was in BR dark green for most of her working life under BR, and emerged from Wilton after the NELPG overhaul in the early 90s back in the BR dark green, remaining in that livery until said repaint at Barrow Hill.

If it were my money, I think I might put her in BR Blue. Partly because it would go with the name of 'Blue Peter' (as a child I could never understand why despite her name she was always painted Green), and partly because it would make some of the purists froth at the mouth and I get a certain guilty pleasure from making people who take such things too seriously get overly worked up!

Surely the answer is in the name, regardless of the niceties of exact authenticity Blue Peter should be... BLUE
