The sooner the better as far as I'm concerned providing it's a PDF version. I would love to be able to keep such a version archived here for future reference.

Perhaps I should make it clear that the journal is not valuable to us for the sole reason that we cannot store it for prosperity, not can we do so for any other magazine we receive. It only becomes valuable to us as a PDF. I accept that others would prefer a paper version. It's just a shame that we all cannot be accommodated.

I just wish "hopeful" was more definite.

With my other hand I also do the production side of the WSR Journal. I have pdf versions available of all those I've worked on and I can supply those very easily indeed. I have supplied these to Jacquie Green so they do exist!

I am pleased to say that the first all electronic e mail WSRA newsletter has just dropped into my inbox.
I'm reliably informed it's possible to view this is in a browser and subsequently save it as a pdf file if you possess the right software.

Yes you are right, in the past, because we have been recovering from years of mismanagement. This year the budget shows the rally profit going towards the Locomotive Restoration Fund.

My copy arrived in plain text. Why would I want to save it as a PDF file?

You are right, although I was well-trained by working to Jim Anderton in GMP for four years!

Your last point is an interesting one. It implies that your fellow Director were not often on the railway. The Association's current trustees have other roles on the railway and are around often enough (not to mention the occasions when they are doing something on behalf of the Association) not to need to get together just for the sake of seeing each other.

Email and shared files also make exchanging information and reaching decisions between meetings much easier in a world where we all of us have less time. I am glad to say that while there is some socialising after Board meetings they are treated as business events.

That's good news. Hopefully the association will sort out what needs to be done to introduce their distribution.

It is perfectly possible to volunteer regularly on a railway, but not actually be able to socialise with others while doing so. For example as a signalman I will see train crews and perhaps exchange a few words if the token exchange is while the train is standing. I will not get the opportunity to have a proper conversation with them. Since I work boxes at two unmanned stations there is not the chance to chat with station staff either. Box visitors are of course welcome if I'm not busy.

Yes, of course, as a former KESR (and current WSR) signalman I'm well aware of that.

My copy arrived as rich text. I can only assume that the format depends on device, the mail client you use and the settings you have in that client. I can see it as rich text on both an android device using its inbuilt mail tool and also on a windows pc using outlook as a mail client.
I was not presuming to tell you either that you should save it ,or in what format you should save it.
I was simply indicating for those that might wish to save them that it was possible to do so.

As an ex resident of Staplehurst I dont know what to say? One interesting observation was that Mrs Staplehurst having driven the car to the station would be waiting in the passenger seat for hubby to drive home
