East Lancashire Railway - Spring Steam Gala 2-4th March

All has been very quiet at the ELR on their spring gala. Any ideas what Locomotives will be running? Visitors?

 

Currently around are 2890,52322,45212,13065,34092 ,60009 and 60103,plus 45407.
45407 lost it's tender so probably less certain and not sure which of the above will be present and available by March.

 

I'm looking forward to 2890 on the freight set...

 

Loco line-up now on the ELR website with 52322, 13065, 34092, 45212 and 45407 running. No mention of any visiting locos yet.

 

45690 "Leander" now confirmed as a visiting loco, subject to availability and completion of repairs.

Count me in for this gala!!!

 

Just hope we don't get any improbable double header combinations, otherwise, yes looking forward to the event as usual. Quite a while since we had 45690's 3-cylinders sounding up the valley.

Hunslet 2890 definitely appearing..

 

Nice to see freight trains making a return to the gala timetable, all adds to the interest.

 

Any idea when loco allocations will be promulgated?

 

Rather have passenge shuttles than freight, means lots of time sat at Bury (27 mins) when heading to Rawtenstall, rather than jumping off for the Rammy shuttle, when arriving from Heywood.

Loco allocations are usually out couple weeks in advance if weather ok see you there

 

But photographers prefer freight....

 

60009 "Union of South Africa" is the second confirmed visiting locomotive.

 

Well it'd be rude of me not to pop along then! Having blown all my steam money (and then some) for this year a photography day for me, as long as the weather's nice. Never been before; how does station access work during galas?

£5 platform tickets have been known in the past at BBS - no idea on plans for 2018

 

But ELR is one of the few heritage railways that doesn't insist on rovers and nothing else to travel.
