Not sure why it has to be Bantam anything - What's wrong with just Bantam?

That said the mental picture I have of a Bantam Cock is small and fiesty - not unlike my mental picture of one Norman McKillop. So how about Toram Beg?

Having already had Wandering Willie suggested. How about resurrecting one of those old North British names or one from Sir Walter Scott. So and keeping the nautical connection Waverley. In this case not the current surviving and beloved Waverley, but her predecessor [also a Paddle steamer] lost at Dunkirk. So the name would be Waverley 1899-1940.

If you want something with an NBR connection, why not an actual NBR design? There are too few preserved, and some were very good.
The V4 seems a very silly class to choose to recreate, unless you venerate Gresley so much that you *must* bring back his every design, even the less distinguished ones.
The V3 is a much more useful and sensible prospect (although an A5, ordered by Gresley, would be filling a far greater gap - GCR locos - and friendlier to operate and maintain having fewer cylinders).
For full disclosure, I should point out I think it is a complete waste of money to bring back a P2 (looks impressive but actual record in service not impressive, much altered even before the rebuild into Pacifics), especially since in all essentials (frames, cylinders, valve gear, boiler, pony truck, etc., etc.) it will be different from the actual P2s. But hey it's not my money.
To be entirely honest, I also don't think an A1 was a particularly important gap (just a big wheeled A2, of which we have one). I like to see 60163, it's a fine achievement.
There are much more important gaps to fill which could also produce locos useful in heritage line service.
Gresley was a fine engineer - one of the very very greats - but I think he'd think it a bit silly to build a V4 in the 2020s...!

Beautiful and wonderful, and tragic that Midlothian was saved (by Gresley!) and then scrapped.
But not exactly suited to pooling along backwards at 25mph.
How about one of the 4-4-2Ts instead?

I like that. Not many people would understand the Toram Beg connection, though, even after you've mentioned Norman McKillop. Failing that, how's about Ecky Bocky?;)

I can find Ecky Thump and Ecky Becky, but no Ecky Bocky on Google. So you've lost me on that one.

I always understood Toram Beg was just Wee Norman in Gaelic.
