I think it was Sir William Stanier who once said "It is better to please a fool than to tease one." However...................

Here is a drawing of 2001s cylinder block with smokebox saddle and 21" (533,4 mm) diameter cylinders. Please show how you are going to fit in your 900 mm (35.4") LP cylinder and valves. If you propose to use a sleeve valve then the bore would, of course, need to be somewhat larger than that.

Neither I think it will a new build project like this in France, but you never know how the future will be.:) If you have all the money and drawings, its possible to send the order to Dampflokwerk Meiningen, Germany and let them do the job.;)
Regarding 231E41, it goes slowly forward, they are going to lift the boiler from it frames. When it one time is ready for service I`m hope we will see it at he main line and not only "chug" around at a heritage railway. But any remarqable runs at the french mainlines? I`m a bit unsure if the nesessary crews with the skills to operate a "Chapelon" "the correct way", is hard to find in France. Many of the older generations crews that knew how to operate these compund engines, were already retired in the 1960s and the new generation prefered the simple expansion american 141R.

    kind regards

    Knut:)

Old toads liking steam locomotives are not fools .
I like steam locomotives myself and want to see new editions that can be able to run within shrinking loading gauges and not destroying tracks or themselves.
    Thank You for the drawing.
It will be difficult for me to superimpose the outline of Webbs arrangment on this drawing so I will make another, but basicly having a 900 mm cylinder between frame plates 1257 mm apart looks possible.
Mentioning sleeve valves was a bad joke, but luckily I did not earn my bread as a comic.

Point of info - all of those classes had 6ft 2in driving wheels, hence the A2 designation, reserved for locomotives of the Pacific arrangement with that driving wheel size. So the Peppercorn A2s were not “smaller wheeled” - they were the same.

Under Thompson’s original scheme, each of his Pacifics was initially “Class A” (as was his B1 “Class B”) before A2 was settled on. A2/3 was A2 for I think maybe a year if I’m reading my notes right.

On that note I think we’re rather getting caught up in the semantics of the thing.

It’s a P2. We didn’t give Tornado a new sub class despite deviating from the original design where appropriate so leaving 2007 as a P2 is fine.

Ah, the vagaries of the English language! I think you can understand @MellishR to use the phrase “smaller-wheeled Peppercorn pacific” to be meant to distinguish the Peppercorn A2 from the “larger-wheeled Peppercorn pacific”, i.e. an A1, rather than meaning “a Pacific that is smaller-wheeled than a Thompson A2, V2 etc.”

Roy Fedden wasn't trying to get sleeve valves to work in the ashy-grime of day-to-day steam locomotive operations though.

The ability to optimise performance for a reasonably constant engine operating speed doubtless made matters a bit easier too.

Yes, I did mean the Peppercorn A2s. I wanted a term for referring to them without mentioning "A2".

And I hope to be there tomorrow evening!

Love the calculator! Didn't even know you could get them in pink!

First set of wheels is great news! Going to be a huge year for the P2.

Great to see the new female steam locomotive designers!:)

Combined with the new ,powerful P2 this might be called "girlpower"
