I think my recollection may be a little better than yours, given that I’ve attended most SLOA/MSLO meetings since 1988 and still retain most of the minutes - and Irecall Your involvement.

David’s grouse with what was then SLOA dates from the early 90s, when SLOA was, as has been described as a work aid for InterCity and the so-called Tri-Partite Agreement was in force. That was at least three chairman and two secretaries before Clive.

As I said, you weren’t involved.

I wouldn’t worry too much - but this is how incorrect second-hand stories on forums such as this fuel such rumours.

I’ve been involved in this funny old game a lot longer than many might think!

James, I know you have been more intimately involved with the "funny old business" than virtually anybody else this past thirty years. If you care to read properly my comments though I made no mention of Clive being any chair other than PELS. You have confirmed there was an understandable disagreement between your gaffer and SLOA, of which Clive was undoubtedly a senior figure throughout the period. That is to say your boss and Clive were on opposite sides of whatever difference of opinion existed at the time, resulting ultimately in the formation of WC.
Not really sure why you are so defensive on this because there is only good news if 6201 benefits from being at Carnforth in one form or another and Mr Smith notches another success. As has been said up thread, personally I would have more confidence in 6201 being managed as part of the Carnforth fleet than PELS alone.

Browsing through Heritage Railway Magazine in W H Smug yesterday, I noticed a self/SLOA justification letter from David Ward.

So why not leave it at that instead of, once again, cluttering up a thread with your pointless and 'flaming' speculation? You wonder why people get irritated with you, when the reasons are clear to see.
Please do not write a long paragraph about this being a discussion forum or WCR supporters being defensive...it's all been said before and, truth be told, many are heartily sick to death of it.

You make many valid and relevant contributions to this forum, but sometimes I feel you enjoy winding up a certain cluster of posters.

Standing back from all this froth I think that it has been obvious for some time now that a Class 8 locomotive or two has become an essential requirement at, or attached to, the Carnforth stable. I realise that Galatea proved herself to be a very capable performer over the Cumbrian hills on 17/2 with 11 on but the fact remains that this class is not the ideal locomotive especially in the winter or the wet if you are looking to run with trains up to load 12. Let's remember that what is going on now over Shap is not something that would have been countenanced back in steam days and here we are in 2018 trying to slot slow moving steam charters in and amongst high speed electric services. Ais Gill is slightly easier where a slow plod causes less difficulty but the potential for difficulties remains.

So the addition of British India Line makes sense and if 6201 features in the mix in the future, that makes even better sense given that it adds to the LMS fleet.

Totally concur with that analysis and IF, and it is very much an if, 6201 joins the Carnforth fleet it is a perfect fit. The only slightly surprising aspect in relation to 35018 is that the opportunity to fit air braking was not taken but 6201 will cover that role too, potentially opening up the Northern Belle to steam haulage.

So on to more important matters..

What livery will it be ?

as 10A likes noddy colours maybe 6201 will be turned out GWR green with Hogwarts Castle nameplates for a few trial runs, and at least a copper cap painted chimney, if not a real one. At least it will be a change on what it’s worn for the last 49 years & 8 months.

So 46115 and 35018 in BR green and 44932 plus 48151 in BR black are in "noddy colours?"
