    Oh and these...

    http://www.philt.org.uk/keyword/carnforth-class 03/

    Never happened,
    It’s just a myth.

Carnforth is next most to the NRM for replicating exacting standards of accuracy at all time, unquestionably and without fail or doubt when it comes to livery...

    Come on...
Pull the other one it’s got bells attached.

    Even this isn’t historically correct...

    https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Rly_LMS_5XP_45690_Leander_JP_Carlisle_07.03.15.jpg

Not arguing it’s right, wrong, ugly or nice,.. it’s all a bit noddy, but if it put bums on seats then maybe give them faces too...
wouldn’t that put some froth on line...

6201 Princess Elizabeth with a painted picture of her namesake on the front, wearing a crown shaped headboard?.. I understand it might cause a surge for tablets at a few NHS surgeries for the first few days but otherwise it might look good.

But to me any change to 6201’s colour scheme is long overdue...

Not all of those phots you've posted links to happened under the watch of 10A's current owners though did they? You could argue that say the SVR's a bit 'Noddy' for painting 46521 into red in the past (for a filming job) or 75069 into BR green. Very easy (and lazy) stick to beat Carnforth with, as an aside one of those pictures you've posted of 44932 in BR green is actually a livery in can authentically carry as it was one of 3 Black 5s repainted various shades of green as an experiment for BR.

6115 was the only Scot to appear in 1946 black with smoke deflectors so that's not noddy either, 45690 is almost right, it should just have BRITISH RAIWAYS on the tender. The only Carnforth loco to be turned out in Mickey Mouse livery is Galatea so I'm not sure what the point is of that post

will a move to 10A mean that the trust that was set up to operate princess Elizabeth will be disbanded ? or is it a way for the chairman of that group, who is himself a very divisive person, a way to ensure he does not lose any power he has, will the trust that was set up be in effect side lined with just the chairman and west coast deciding the loco's future, After all that the engine will only wear LMS red is i believe more to do the the chairman of the trust than the membership as a whole, In the past wasnt there a very public spat when the chairman, in effect said it's my engine and at the end of its ticket it will be stuffed and mounted , when the overwhelming intension was from the members that the engine be overhauled, and in the end, Bob Meanley did over see a period of further action.

The was an offer from a lot of photographers to fund a repaint it into BR Green for a series of charters and then fund the repainted back into red but the request was refused. There isn't a lot of money in charters for the engine owners but every little helps as the saying goes.

Why paint it, when a decent wrap would do most of the job, baring firebox....

Nice to see a colour shot of 5407 in FR red!

I spend a very pleasant couple of evenings with Peter Beet painting those driving wheels. He said enthusiasts would go nuts when the news got out! He'd be thrilled that people were still talking about it almost 50 yrs later!

The three green black 5s in 1948 were M4762, M4763 and M4764 with M5292 in lined black.

Really, a wrap could be done in a couple of days, and would mean no re-paint once it was removed????

I'd say ALL the speculation on here is much more than slightly premature.

As I said, its an as yet unanswered question as to what role if any Carnforth will play in 6201 becoming a runner once more. On the plus side there has been no denial yet .......

I doubt there is anywhere near enough money to paint a big loco twice - useful income to subsidise a repaint that would be needed anyway, but surely not enough to cover the middle five figure sum likely to be needed to paint a loco twice.

As I recall the proposal @Johnb alludes to would have been cost neutral to PELS with the added benefits of some charter income and a fresh coat of LMS livery at the end of it. Its a fools errand trying to fathom the logic of declining the proposal, IMHO.
