    my first thought when I see a "dig deep or this gets scrapped" is it is usually emotional blackmail.

    You see it a lot with classic cars "£500 or it's the crusher, please save this". Offer the guy a few quid more than the scrap price (or offer to take it off his hands and restore it) and he won't sell it to you, he wants his 500 and is just trying to make a sale.

    From what I've read, the scrapper put the price up when he realised someone wanted it....

    Depending on what you read, it's either that, or the original calculation of the locos scrap value was underestimated.........

    They do appear have raised all the required funds through the Gofundme campaign now, and confirmation is awaited on completion of the sale agreement now (which should have happened yesterday...)

    Latest news seems to be that the City of Port Arthur have now decided that they don't want to get rid of the loco after all ...
