Update on the military train as a part of the Spring Gala. The USA S160 Military Freight engine has arrived and has been in use today for crew familiarisation. The military train is being shunted and loaded on Wednesday, it’s going to be the longest freight train we have had on the WSR for a long time and the first military one since 1994.

Here are the military train running times, 22-25th March times will be the same each day.
Leave Minehead at 08.20, pass a passenger train at Crowcombe at 09.11, pass through Bishops Lydeard 09.34. Arrive Norton Fitzewarren 09.44 where we will turn the whole train on the triangle. Arrive back at Bishops Lydeard at 10.20 in platform 2. Leave Bishops Lydeard at 12.50, pass a passenger train at Crowcombe at 13.03, pass another at Blue Anchor at 13.55 and arrive at Minehead at 14.15 where the train will stay in the platform for all to come and see for the rest of the day.

Here is a photo of the engine today on the turntable at Minehead, courtesy of www.wsr.org.uk and Alan Smithers. This web-site is a great place to go to see all of the latest happenings and photos nearly daily, it also has web cams so you can see trains leave and arrive from your armchair if you can’t be there in person.

Got the programme today, timetable a bit different to usual so will be interesting to see how it works.

One slight moan, Mod Halls double heading most of Sunday, while it will be a good spectacle it's a shame we don't get to see 6990 solo - the only loco not to do a solo turn!

Booked my 0905 breakfast, makes me wish the QB was at the MD end of the set with what the traction is up top!

The way the auto coach is currently suggets that for the start of the Gala, engine will be facing Taunton.

Doesn’t mean we won’t turn it at some point though.............!

Cracking gala so far. If only the auto coach could run into Taunton.

Saw a video on Facebook of 7714 coupled to the s160.
Did 7714 have to take the s160 and it's load or was it just removing the s160 from it's train and taking the stock onwards?

I imagine if it took the lot it must have been quite a spectacle!

Apparently I was at Nornvis Bridge filming the S160 climbing Crowcombe Bank with the 16:45 to Minehead, she was alright in the distance, but mysteriously stopped just after Nethercott. It took about 15-20 mins to get her going again and even she was struggling with her load. The video of her along with all of my day's filming will be avaliable tomorrow.
