35018 British India Line

I have just read in the various comments on the hellifield videos, that injector problems and a possible warm bearing caused the failure, can anyone confirm?
As regards the steam leak, what metal are the gland packings made from? i know different owners have tried different materials what seems to work best ? perhaps twr12 can enlighten us on what material they used on the bobbings on 34028/52 , i'm assuming the arrangement on a rebuild WC/BB will be the same as on a MN.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that it makes it all the way round this time. I'll be out for the other MN on rich man's steam on Friday.

 

Is there any other evidence to suggest that this will actually run or be BIL, its just the standard path that WCRC have in the system every week day isn't it?

It's the standard timing for a steam test run. I can't think of any other WC working that would require so much time at Hellifield

 

Heard some gossip at the weekend suggesting the latest repairs would be tested this week and optimism about the work done.

Well as regular readers of this thread might note, I have been proved wrong before now but word was the root causes have been fully identified and fixed since the last outing.
I wonder if things go well it might get an outing for Mr Robertson on the Cath Ex 17/3?

Email from SD yesterday stating it will be 45699 on the 17/3/18.

 

Fair enough but guessing there would not be a huge number of complaints if a late substitution occurred and 35018 made its full debut ......
By the way I have no info whatsoever that this may happen just speculating it might be apt if the possibility arose.

i suppose they could double head it so that BIL does not do all of the work, if west coast want to stretch her legs a bit, but first things first, lets hope that the problems are now sorted, no one likes to see any steam engine not running completely right.

 

I would love to think it would DH with Galatea on Saturday. I also realise I have more chance of winning the National Lottery!

 

I simply wondered if there is any sentimental desire to have an MN on a SD train and as 35018 is northern based for the forseeable it appears this might be a rare opportunity.
Rationally, however, I concur totally with your logic but presumably Shap etc will need to be attempted at some point, just as Wilpshire is on the test circuit, so at what stage does the engineer say its fit for anything? A diesel on the back might be prudent for the initial runs?

 

Must admit after the( failed )test run two weeks ago folk thought hey ho it will run the CME a day later but that was never the plan ( as far as I know ) so not a remote chance of a double header LOL

 

If the most recent test run had gone to plan 35018 might have taken last weeks Shrewsbury job I'd guess.
