That is why I no longer attend meetings at BL Village Hall. I like my comfy chair too much!

Back in my early days in the Royal Air Farce (well it is now - 9 to 5, weekdays only, and run by contractors :() One of the few things that gave us sprogs pleasure after a day of having the drill sergeant shouting at us was the simple act of using paper with "Government Property" printed on every sheet. It sort of expressed our opinions quite admirably. :p

Interesting to note that after one hundred days crowd funding the MLRG started to raise money for a feasibility study has reached just £260.00 of the £10,000.00 they were seeking. Some much for their claims to have widespread support.

It is very easy to get carried away with the fee structure for Crowd Funding. Firstly ignore the card charges as they would be payable even if you took the donation yourself. They charge 5% and that is really what you pay. If you consider what you get it is not difficult to understand how cheap that really is. The 5 p in the £ covers giving you access to a sophisticated web site that you can upload photos etc., to. Most also include a free app that you can download to mobile phones to make payment easier. You can also donate via text, something you would normally have to pay for. Your 'web page' for crowd funding will also be high up the search engine results. If you were to go and create all this yourself on your own website I guess you could be looking at £30 to £60 per month plus the card charges. 5% now doesn't look so bad.
Whilst on the subject of crowd funding your generosity towards our tarpaulins (sorry Robin wagon sheets) paid final dividends today as the sheets arrived in the back of my car and were soon fitted. The company who made them came in a little cheaper and we have a few pounds over which, I hope you will approve, will go onto the next project Esso tanker 1822 which we believe needs the timber bolsters renewed, girt big lumps of oak. Have attached a photo from today's work and many, many thanks for your help.

They'll weather. Nothing positive to say? I think it looks great by the way, now, what to chalk on the notes board on the end?...

Thanks Flying Scotsman123. You are absolutely right they will weather quite quickly. The important thing is that they are sisal, the proper material not the nylon stuff. When they get wet they will shrink slightly tightening the sheet. Within a year they will have gone a dull greyish brown. You can't get this rope second hand so we did our best. I think they look great and all will weather together, paint will fade, sheet will soften and start to look grey/brown and the ropes (which are the correct plaited type) will darken. We did our best in the time available.

Robin was chasing up the labels etc. Was RDX (Remotely Detonated Explosive) called RDX in the 40s?

    Could have been worse.
Imagine the comments if you had used Blue Nylon cord?
When the sheets were new originally what colour would the rope have been then?
New sheets mean new rope you got it right.

    Looks ok to me.

Surely the Ropes/Tarp would have been new at some point anyway? Completely authentic, in my opinion. New tarp, new ropes. Not everything was old and weathered! Looks brilliant, and it's good to see more wagons being restored - fantastic job!

Rather than Tarps they are wagon sheets...therefore ropes are lines.......? Wagon sheets held down by ( wagon) lines.
