I seem to remember lack of rails didn’t stop Titfield Thunderbolt from being moved... :Joyful:

We had some once but they needed more work and money than the GWSR could cope with. The GWSR does currently have 2 GWR coaches, a Collett Full Brake and a Siphon G.

It's possible but as the 2 locos are facing opposite ways then it might not look too good for some.

Sorry, had not noticed FS123’s post on the previous page that reported that fact.

That would be ideal. Let 2807 take in the first train facing forward. Detach it and park in platform 2. Meanwhile 7903 could be sent up to take out the train also facing forward. 2807 could then follow on later maybe with a guards van ride. This would avoid the problem of tender first haulage and add to the atmosphere and activity of the occasion

Aha true yes, but recall too that when it did leave the tracks, a key problem they had was it would only go in a straight line! :p

It would be nice, but that's an extra loco (which would have to be P&O, most expensive coal-wise, and crew (and train crew and admin stuff if you want freight train). There are already something like 100 volunteers rostered per day. I think the Easter weekend is going to be just great as it is. Tender-first haulage is a fact of life on our railway, we just need to accept it. At least we've got some variety in which way locos face so you can get shots from both directions, even if not of the same loco.

    22 days to go! :D

There are two "firsts": the first scheduled passenger arrival, and first scheduled passenger departure. So honours can be shared while maintaining locos facing the right way round!

Yes I do like the sound of this idea actually, both engines can share the honour of hauling the first train, while as you say Tom allow the railway to have both trains in and out the station be smokebox first.

It would be a win-win all round!

22 days that’s plenty of time to convert the line to 2ft gauge and hire a Double Farlie from the FR to solve the problem of tender first running ;):D

Being serious just seeing public trains at Broadway is good enough for me although I will admit it would of been nice for the first in and first out to be the right way round it’s not the end of the world especially as it’s not practical.

Apparently online tickets for Friday have sold out, so it's going to be BUSY folks. I expect Saturday is not far behind in terms of ticket sales.

I imagine that it will be busy across the weekend, looking back over the years it’s still hard to believe that it’s now so close, I certainly can’t wait!

I hope the webcam has some spare bandwidth! Won't quite be home in time, still in dissection at 11am, but looking forward to seeing the first service train of the year on Saturday.

is there room at Broadway and at CRC to set the freight down beyond the platforms so its clear of the running round loop? if so why not have 7903 on the first departure as planned from Broadway, but have 2807 on the freight, so as 7903 awaits departure time, 2807 runs in with the freight waits in the platform till the hall departs, 2807 can then run round, propels freight on to head shunt, uncouples, waits for next passenger, which i would assume is 35005, then 2807 runs onto head of that train, 35005 onto the freight brake test and departs with freight in a non stop path, 2807 can then take the next passenger working at race course either the engines can run round and return or again swop trains will your signalling allow you to that?

The 'opening' of the station is definitely the first train to arrive, whether ECS or full of passengers, traditionally accompanied by brass band playing 'See, the conqu'ring hero comes.' This is followed by the various speeches, after which the invited guests adjourn for a cold collation in a marquee or other suitable place. If the first train is ECS, the guests travel on the first departure and have the cold collation at the destination.
    Simples.

No-one holding out for a brass band striking up the theme tune to Thomas the Tank Engine then? No? .... thank Bob for that!

And .... just for the record ..... When the Ffesterbahn's 'deviation' opened, he very first passenger carrying train was - by special order of the GM, the late Mr Allan Garraway MBE - reserved for those who'd been active constructing said length of railway and the VIP's just had to wait for the second train. Those were the days.....
