I'm really glad there has been a breakthrough, things sounded very dark on the grapevine only a few months ago. Brilliant.
A big thank you to those that turned it round.
I'm happy to buy some shares, I hope people here will too.
(I am a shareholder in 4253, and look what they did with our money :) ) (and yes, they do have a follow on project, a very bare 0-6-2 GWR tank loco, about the barest Barry engine I ever saw)

It should be noted that the Std 3 2-6-2 tanks were designed two years before the Std 3 2-6-0s. So, in typical Swindon fashion, pre-existing components were used to build the 2-6-0.

There seems to be an assumption on Nat Pres that the idea of preservation groups working together is something of a rarity, where as the complete opposite is in fact the case. There is a vast informal network of bodies with common interests sharing ideas, skills and components across the country which many people never get to hear about, but believe me it is an every day occurrence in preservation and has been going on for years.

I must have done very well to have spent something like 7 years volunteering and yet to have encountered it then! :')

I started volunteering in 1972 I have encountered it on numerous occasions over the years. Over the years I have been a volunteer, worked full time for three preserved Railways, worked for BR , worked for a Tram company and been a Contractor, that is the way to get the contacts. :)

For me too, neighbours to the GWSR have been very kind, we have a common cause. It's been very enjoyable meeting all these guys, and as above it does indeed lead to contacts. I even swapped a pair of GWR lamp posts at a Midland railway, for a pair of Midland ones on the GWSR ! Everyone's a winner if you cooperate. And it's fun :)

Rather more than just locos on lorries! I believe the OP works at the GCR: to take an example from that neck of the woods, they are procuring a new smokebox wrapper, door and mounting ring for their Standard Class 2 tender engine and the 84030 group at the Bluebell has taken the opportunity to purchase the same for 84030 as a single order. Such examples of co-operation are far from unusual.

Agreed. 34081 needed a new smokebox door. Discussions with fellow Bulleid owners soon resulted in a small batch order to the SDR with a resulting reduction in unit costs. Then there was the theft of components we suffered back in 1997 just after she'd passed her in frames boiler inspection. Within days replacement parts had been offered by others so we could get her running prior to us getting new ones made. Such cooperation is far from rare.

I missed the smiley on the end. I'm well aware of how much co operation goes on between various railways and groups.

76077 is on the move at last (quick restoration or what?!) and has started its journey to become a great asset to the GWSR. See the latest "Broadway Extension Blog".

I do not understand why they are throwing all that paint on the frames of 76077 when a coat of red oxide would suffice for now. They have even painted the inside faces of the horns.
There will be a lot of items that will require removal and replacement. The last thing you want is paint burning away we you are trying to remove something.

As Shareholders of 76084, we are fully aware of the need to return or replace the parts borrowed from 76077.
We are delighted that progress is being made regarding refurbishment of our Sister loco, indeed we have recently started an appeal to raise the cash for the parts which are detailed below.

    https://www.standard4.com/76077-replacement-parts/

As ever we would welcome any support to get 76077 (and keep 76084) up and running!

    Thanks!

All the bits and pieces under the marquee have disappeared off to Loughborough to be assembled into a rolling chassis which is good news, the boiler is still sat at Toddy and will follow a bit later on in the restoration process.

Readig the link above it's quite pleasing to know that parts from '84 we're lent to '79 and parts from '77 lent to '84 over time! :)

Well I have to say it's great to see the group so eager and willing to get 76077 the parts for it that were borrowed, really shows the great level of cooperation and good sporting in doing so.

I look forward to the day we can have both 76077 and 79084 in steam together side by side, perhaps double heading a train or two. ;) In fact have two Standard 4 Moguls ever come together before?
I know the moguls have been a bit slower to be restored and running about then their 4-6-0 counterparts.

Yes that you are correct, just seen a clip of that myself. Look forward to the day we can see 76077 and 76084 together all the same however.
