Absolutely no need to put words in your mouth, you spout plenty of them without help from others.
As for an opinion on 35018’s steam leak and visibility, I wasn’t on the footplate so am in no position to judge if it was deleterious to vision or not. Not that your absence from the scene has stopped you.

It may not occur to you, but I and others seem to worry a bit more over what the consequences might be if a loco sets off with a fault that might well be seen as an impingement to safety. You obviously think nothing of it, and we may be overreacting, but is it really a risk to the industry worth taking?

Are you sure it set off with a fault? Sometimes an engine can be in perfect health on shed and then something just breaks. I don’t know anything of the circumstances of 35018’s latest run, but I’d want to be really certain of my case before saying it definitively set off with a fault, rather than that a fault developed en route.

You are quite right, however this particular "break" seems to have happened every time the loco has been out on the main line, and it appears to be getting worse each time.

Fair comment Tom, we do not know the exact timing that the recurrent fault became manifest on the latest outing. As @BigAl suggests, perhaps the ftr exam could not reveal how any repair would react under load or other specific test to prove the repair either.

Picking up a couple of points

Bulleid locos have outside admission valves, so a valve spindle blow would be constant not chuffing as with inside admission

    AWS is a Warning system
TPWS is a just in case system
The control units for the two systems is in the same box, and they share the same brake valve, but they do serve different functions

As we are in challenging mode, you have presumably seen much the same lineside footage as others so what is your opinion on the likely effect of escaping steam to forward vision from the footplate?

You’re obviously having trouble reading so I will say once again, I was not on the footplate so cannot have an opinion as to how much effect the leak had on forward vision. The only people who can tell you what it was like will be the crew on the day and I do not see them posting on here so far.

    Right you are.
So you never have an opinion about a football incident you see on television because you weren't on the pitch?

I think it's fair to assume that, as non of the crews involved failed the loco on the outward/inward legs, it appears that they (who carry the can) did not feel safety was compromised?

I didn't say that it was good to take a loco out in this condition but I disagree with the argument that a blowing gland on the RHS is significantly compromising safety. Leaking glands on steam locomotives are a fact of life but, unless they are really significant, don't affect forward vision that much. That is my opinion based on far too many years experience of being on the footplate but I can't comment on the view ahead on this particular occasion because I wasn't there. I suggest that no driver would continue with a loco if he thought it was unsafe, for this or any other reason. Are you saying that, in your opinion, the driver is being reckless?
I have no idea what is causing the problem with 35018. I can speculate on various possible reasons but that is all it would be, speculation.

I am simply stating an opinion, shared by others it seems, that based on the film footage vision down the right hand side would appear to be impinged by escaping steam.
I also made a general point that as a former driver, if I found a loco to have a steam leak which compromised the vision from the footplate to a significant degree I would not take it off shed. As I also stated this may be a risk averse thinking on my part.
If it develops on the road, that is a judgement to be made on its merits as to whether it is safe to continue, generally speaking.
In the case of 35018, a leak has been apparent during each public outing but I accept this may have been repaired and failed again successively.

Do you think the driver would have taken the engine out in that condition?

A pointless analogy but no surprise as most of your posts on this thread are pointless.

How is that an accurate comparison? A football match is filmed from multiple angles, has live commentary and the people involved in the incident normally explain their positions sooner or later.

Meanwhile, you are mindlessly speculating based off amateur footage on an Internet forum.
