    Friends in Muscovite places...

The Bluebell’s East Grinstead extension was also opened in...less than ideal...circumstances.

Quite, I can only conclude that the weather gods must have similar views on heritage railway extensions to a certain IoW museum curator... :)

Certainly a well rebuilt station coming back from nothing reall a credit to whole raileay and the volunteers that have slogged away rebuilding and relaying. Whats the final track layout to be? Did see a imafe a while back of double loop. Or it just be standard single loop.

The second loop was not built as there wasn't the money. The corresponding signal was taken down :-(

Some more double track and extra passing loop south of the station was talked about but subsequently canned for the short term due to cost issues. This was before the full extent of the embankment issue south of station was known, whether this has put the kibosh on the second loop permenantly or it's still just waiting for the money I don't know.

Bit of a wait and see what materialses in future with that part then, . The station still looks the part even though its new build.

The length of the wait will be dependent upon the number of visitors to the GWSR and the number of share purchases and donations made. We all know the answer to the question so I don't need to elaborate further! There are, of course, other GWSR projects that need funding, not least a carriage shed at Winchcombe.

As a matter of interest, what would be a rough estimate of the cost of adding the extra loop?

Is there a perpertual fog currently hanging over Broadway, or has the webcam gone very moody?

Said carriage shed should be a much higher priority than a second loop at Broadway.

Absolutely - now that we've opened there are lots of things higher priority than finishing off Broadway! For me I think S+T need their proper workshop even before our carriage shed.

Undoubtedly, but you should build it fourteen feet up in the air on a small and slightly wobbly platform exposed to the elements - S&T types just don't feel at home otherwise ... ;)

Is the loop still in place at Laverton? And is there not potential for taking advantage of that for extra capacity rather than needing to build an extra loop at Broadway? Or do the complexities of needing another signalman in place at Laverton for running days outweigh the benefits of not having to build an extra loop?

No, the loop at laverton was dismantled and is now in use at Broadway. I don't think you'd get many takers for signalmen at Laverton either, it's hard enough at Gotherington! Which leads us to the inevitable conclusion that Toddington-Broadway ought to be double tracked at the earliest possible convenience... :)
