Carriage shed should be next on the shopping list the extra 5 miles adds more demand for coaches and keeping them in good nick. Also help focus on finishing the unrestored coaches maximising all available coaches you have at gwsr.
It would be a WIBN but couldnt you have gotherington controled remotely from winchecombe. If really struggle to man the box.

As I've told a number of people this last week who've asked; we've got a ~£10million shopping list of things before we even think about making the line any longer, and frankly, I don't really want to go to Honeybourne, I think we'll overstretch ourselves.

Oh most definitely i think 15 miles is nice length sitting nice close enough to cheltenham and to stunning broadway, Adding the 5 miles to broadway will be hard work. Focus should be on rest of line and whats needed 1st and improving, not darting off on another x miles to honeybourne. I mean never say never but enjoy what you have as a line atm rather than over cooking it and all goes wrong

Great news, help recoup the huge investment made in going to broadway, and pay for the future

I wonder if there's any chance of someone fixing/cleaning/refocusing the Broadway Webcam?

Word reaches me that the carefully created Booking Hall interior at Broadway station, complete with GWR clock and 'in/out/ barriers has been defaced by a number of modern plastic notice cases screwed to the wall. Plastic has no place in the oceans or in 1904 stations. Please say that isn't true?

A temporary thing I believe, it looks especially bad impinging on head space if you sit on the nice new bench we've done! I understand @Breva has something more suitable lined up.

We all know how long 'temporary' jobs can remain in place when there's always something more urgent needing to be done..........................

Give 'em a chance! The station staff were under a lot of pressure to fit the place out once they "moved in" with the little time they had before opening day, and they needed somewhere to put leaflets and timetables other than in a pile on the floor. It is being sorted out, and will get done, of that I am sure, as we are a railway that gets things done. I think folk need to get used to the fact that Broadway is now just another station on the line, it can still have everything it wants, but not immediately, it must take its turn.

I've yet to visit, so can't comment on the appearance directly. However, having seen the superb job done in general, it would be a great shame to let something so relatively minor undermine all that effort. I hope that the correction can be done as part of "snagging" rather than being allowed to become another project, competing for scarce time and effort.

I hope I didn't give the impression that a replacement leaflet rack was on the same list as, and potentially behind, say, a new carriage shed! I expect Broadway station will have a departmental budget just like the other stations and the team there can decide what they want to spend their budget on. I doubt a leaflet rack will make it to board level!

To do a job once requires planning, something seemily lacking at the GWSR. It must have been known from the start the racks wer neededdd so sufficient time to design and manufacturwooden racks. Sorry but this apears to be more of "why do something once when you can do it twicetwice" the GWSR WAY

I would agree that planning has been lacking in some respects, hence some of the controversies seen in this thread. With this particular (very small!) example though, I don't think it's a case of doing it twice, merely we haven't done it the first time yet, and here's what we're doing in the meantime.

That's really unfair, and very harsh. The GWSR is a volunteer organisation, not a multinational corporation, for heaven's sake.
There's only so much they could and can do with the money, man power and resources available, and I for one think they have done wonders.
As has been said, the plastic rack will be replaced when time allows- I think this is what is known these days as a "First world problem". Now give them a break and congratulate them for what they HAVE achieved.

FS123, you seem to be under the impression that just because trains are running to Broadway now that nothing else needs to be done there and all the focus/money can now be directed on a carriage shed. I can imagine that there is still a long list of jobs to be done on P1 at Broadway to get it to the point where there can be a logical pause before moving on to platform 2. There is an old saying, “do it once and do it right” that comes to mind here.

From the last BAG blog it would appear that a number of BAG members have now moved on to other departments on the railway so let’s give those that remain all our support. Hopefully they can refrain from installing any more temporary fittings and continue to focus on producing the gem that Broadway has the potential to be. Let us also congratulate all of the BAG volunteers for what they have achieved over the years.

    Regards

    Paul

Absolutely, categorically not! FWIW in the list of capital expenditure a carriage shed should not IMO be top.

I was merely trying to suggest (patently not very well) that now that the initial pressure of opening to Broadway is off and the essentials are in place projects like the footbridge are *equal* in importance to such projects elsewhere on the line.

And this excludes small things like leaflet racks!

The important point is that broadway is open and open to traffic. Yes it does still need work still to finish it off properly, but its open and earning and got bumper traffic so far. Im sure now that is open and that pressure is off getting it open has cooled off, volunteers, management and members can sit down and agree what to progress onto next
