I see that the Flyer 2 ran yesterday with not one comment on here. Was there something else happening that distracted people, oh yes, the Grand National.

Comment 1 --the points at Glaisdale are fixed.

Comment 2 -- Whitby to Middlesbrough in 1 hour 40 mins is a pretty tough assignment! There should be a prize for the first crew to do that on time.

Certainly tough with a 50mph limited loco as we found out last week, we would have needed to be doing 60+ to keep time on the way from York.

A minor inconvenience of making use of the SSE loco, which turned out to be the 8F, when perhaps initially a Jubilee was envisaged to be at York?

The branch is limited to 45 mph so line speed limit not loco speed limit is where the problem lies. The difficulty lies in the need to cross a Northern Whitby train at Nunthorpe at 17.53 when 16.30 is the earliest you can leave Whitby. It might work on paper but does not seem to in reality. Other than that you would have to wait until 18.00 to leave Whitby to cross that Northern unit at Glaisdale which is I suspect too late for a decent return home. Bit of a Catch 22 dilema.

Don't get me wrong Peter, I realise the problems with crossing the service train on the single line section, I was thinking more of the York to Northallerton where last week we lost some time, but I notice that this week the timings appeared a bit more relaxed and a good bit of recover time built in.

Yes agreed it's 1630 or bust.

Actually we should just be grateful that NR is willing to squeeze it in given the tight fit. I think as well as the line speed, collecting the tokens, the restrictions at Ruswarp and Sleights, Nunthorpe etc all add up. Last year the Standard 4 and B1 ran really well but we still lost 10 mins from Whitby to Midd.
