Wrong part of the country but maybe if we get enough volunteers we could restage “The battle of Wolverhampton station” - the Shrewsbury and Birmingham versus the London and North Western. Shovels and pickaxes at the ready!

Forget WW2 this is proper railway history!!

I am a GWR enthusiast with the best of them, but there is something very special about a ‘Spam Can’. I am very much looking forward to seeing ‘City of Wells’ working over the WSR summits...

I think the railway enthusiasts here are a lot worse than most football fans.

At least the majority of sports fans can still meet in the pub and have a friendly chat after the game. On this forum intolerance or falsehoods to belittle those whose opinions someone dislikes seem to be the norm. I certainly wont be identifying myself to anyone here at the AGM.

The sooner the PLC gets some social media regulations in place and enforces them the better.

We don't even need to stage “The battle of Wolverhampton station” or any other railway batlle. We have our own. GWR only versus everyone else or heritage railway versus tourist railway spring to mind. The 6+1 versus everyone else would be great fun as well.

Anne, I got the impression that they already had. A lot less WSR folk post here now.
I also note your post of a week or so ago went unanswered, unless of course the answer was given to you by other private means.

Yes they are very "special" and like many things which are, they're best enjoyed at someone else's expense, and in moderation.

I can't agree with your social media comment Anne. Not sure I agree with the football fan comparison either. Rugby Fans can and do share conversations post-match over a pint or two and it is good natured.

The use of social media is everybody's free choice, can't wind back history. Trying to stifle free speech can never be a good thing. Management need to listen and take action.
I tend to look at it the other way around, on a well run and well managed heritage railway there will be little for visitors, volunteers and staff to moan about. Indeed they will probably vigorously defend "their" railway from unreasonable comment. If the converse is true however then the visitors, staff and volunteers will give voice to their feelings by whatever means they have at their disposal.
Bottom line is that every supporter of the railway is vitally important be they staff, passengers, volunteers or contributors. As the chairman is fond of saying we need to be "one railway" if we want to survive in the 21st century. A sentiment I'm sure we can all get behind.

Spamcans can provide good spectator entertainment, especially when climbing steep grades in South Devon. ;)

I have to agree with @Robin White.

At last years Swanage Railway 'Strictly Bulleid' event, 'City of Wells' was the star of the show in my opinion.

I look forward to hearing that wonderful soundtrack again as she pushes up to Stogumber from Williton.

Agreed, and the thread on Peak Rail is starting to show signs of what happens when the cork is too tightly kept in the bottle - though without such superb campaigners as during X6 days. However, I suggest that the volume and intensity of comment on matters WSR does suggest there is still work to be done, and that the internal channels are not yet fully effective at delivering that work.

With respect you may have, like many others, fallen into the trap,of thinking this forum is reptesntative of communications between various parts of the WSE family. I don’t believe it is but nevertheless it serves a useful purpose.

I don't consider it representative, but I do note the volume and intensity of communications involving people who appear to be insiders. I regard that as indicative - as I do the falling level of such communications that maybe lines of communication are being cleared.

    Please don’t be confused.

The fact that I look forward to a visit to The Railway at the bottom of my garden by a magnificent icon of design from the first half of the 20th century, does not make me a supporter of the (still rather vague?) event in prospect for September.
