Three strands of electric fence wire? They'll only ignore it once :)

On the steam engine driving course can u have a certain loco? I’d prefer the manor than the hall or 7F when I book for my birthday next month

Yes, for some people the only way to stop them doing something is to make it physically impossible for it to be done. (and even then they'll try to find a way!!)

Given that there has never been precision about the product (locomotives, timetable, facilities) this, with respect, seems unlikely to have been very useful.

I trust a culture of listening to the Railway’s senior management and loyal supporters, when they express concerns about courses of action proposed, will replace the ‘we know best’ approach that has been floating around recently.

One of the lessons from the despatch of the X6 was that when we worked together (at EGM3) we triumphed. We would have succeeded at EGM1, many months earlier and with much less collateral damage (4160 shares etc), had some folk not been pursuing a ‘we can solve this on our own’ path.

    Strength in unity.

Forgive me, but I am slightly confused here. You say that the Railway’s senior management are expressing concern - but aren't they the ones who are supposed to be managing things?

Do you ever do your own research? Look at Ordnance Survey maps...or Bing Maps and look at the paths marked.

I find that a Ridgeback is extremely useful. Who was it that said walk softly and carry a big stick.....This is the dog version. Very friendly and very amenable, until the line is crossed!

Dunno about michaelh, but I am still confused. Who are expressing concern, and who are not yet listening but think ‘we know best’?

Excuse me but I am thoroughly confused too, I have not read this thread for a few days and it appears mayhem has broken out. Perhaps we should rename this thread WSR the dos and don'ts of daft ideas and solutions.
I take a few days to go on holiday and come back to a proliferation of spats between a 'senior' director and the thread's legal beagless, decisions to run multiple Atlantic Coast Expresses that is on then off, discussions on hiring a dog to keep offenders off railways which include Rhodesian Ridgebacks and other endless speculation and sniping.
So please let me allude to some real hard facts. We, in the wagon group, are short of staff and would very much appreciate a couple of bodies coming along on Tuesdays to help us get the ex MoD brake van finished so that it can run with our military train in September. Any offers of help please email me at kenefd@btinternet.com.
Bless you all and enjoy plain sailing.

When the ‘Seven of Clubs’ event was proposed, a number of experienced folk carefully explained what they perceived to be the difficulties, privately and internally. Those promoting it barrelled on without engaging with the difficulties. This led to the bizarre situations of (1) money being spent on leaflets promoting the event with no details and (2) staff and volunteers promoting it last weekend after a decision to cancel (‘postpone’) it had been taken but had not been communicated.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not against new events, and there will always be siren voices, but the right approach IMHO is to listen to the voices of experience, including the nay-sayers, as a way of spotting the ice bergs in time to turn the ship.

    Two birds with one stone.

The West Somerset Railway’s Carriage and Wagon Department has come up with a clever solution to problems with coach painting and carriage steam heat efficiency. They wish to express their appreciation to the Minehead Knitting Circle for their assistance.

I don’t know, if the line could get either Clan Line or the newly restored British India Line you could have a real money maker on the your hands. However if they get P&O I don’t think it will be as popular given she is exclusive to heritage lines and you can get quite a few miles behind her quite cheaply the other 2 are exclusive to mainline running so getting the chance to ride behind them isn’t cheap especially Clan Line who regularly works the VSOE.

The light Pacifics will most like be Braunton (that’s got to be pretty much a certainty given it’s history with the WSR) and either City of Wells or 92 Squadron who are both very popular locos and being spam cans would give all 3 current versions of the Bulleids

We all have our choices but other than the 2 that have been on the WSR how many do you know of ? As good as 53808 is I would think it would be a shame to substitute a S&D loco for a GWR one .

As long as it's got copper and brass and it can bark .

I do believe the Manor might be more suitable as it will handle most trains except the heaviest charters , I do have nothing whatsoever against a Hall .
